In my "buying guide", HOW TO BUY HOME APPLIANCES (Regnery Press, Circa 1972-1973) by Charles Klamkin, the following "6 basic appliances" (Refrigerator, Range, (or separate cook-top/oven combination) Dishwasher, Washer, Dryer & Freezer) are recommended:

REFRIGERATORS: Amana (All models) Top Freezer? Bottom Freezer? Side X Side? Were through door dispensers available? What capacity existed? What was the "Twin System"? I believe my aunt had a "Two + Two 1/2", though it was a small 14 cu. ft. Top Mount Freezer.

General Electric TBF 21 DN or Hotpoint CTF 21 C (21 cu. ft. Top Freezer)

RANGES: Electric -- Westinghouse; Gas -- Caloric 30"? 36" / 40"? What about Eye-Level Ovens, Double Ovens and built-ins?

At least ONE 30" version of each gets profiled: Caloric H 100 S -- Gas, Self-Cleaning; Westnghouse KF 338 -- Electric, Self-Cleaning

DISHWASHERS: Kitchen Aid (All Models) Built-In? Portable? Convertible? Front-Loader? Top Loader?

Westinghouse SC 300 -- Built-In, Under-counter; SUK 3CX CG -- Portable Front-Loader; General Electric SM 150 N -- Portable Top Loader

AUTOMATIC WASHERS: Westinghouse Tumble Action Front-Loaders; (How many actually existed in Reg. and Lg. Capacity?) Maytag Top Loaders; (Reg. Capacity? Lg. Capacity? Cycles? Speeds?)

General Electric WWA 704ON -- 18 Pounds (although I believe this is really a FOURTEEN Pound Machine; might be a printing error, there) 2 Speeds, 2 Cycles;

Whirlpool LXA 6700 -- 14 Pounds (although I saw this in Consumer Reports as an EIGHTEEN Pound (Lg. Cap.) machine) 2 Speeds, 4 Cycles; Sears Kenmore w/ same features

CLOTHES DRYERS: Maytag; (Gas? Electric? Timed? Automatic? Regular Capacity? Large capacity?)

Norge: (Electric) LDE 1818A; (Gas) LDG 1818A -- I'm sure these are Lg. Cap. machines w/ Automatic Shut-Off.

FREEZERS: Amana (All models) Chest? Upright? Manual Defrosting? Frost Free? (There are so many sizes, that I think I found more possibilities for them, than for any other app's!)

Norge UFM 2000; (19.8 cu. ft. Upright, Manual Defrost) General Electric CA 12 DN (11.6 cu. ft. Upright, Manual Defrost)

Whirlpool EX H 12 D; (12 cu. ft. Chest) Sears (15 cu. ft. Chest; no model # given) Sears (20 cu. ft. chest; no model # given) Or larger models bought on sale...

In addition, a Delmonico 8 cu. ft. freezer, a Sanyo compact refrigerator (SR 208, 7.5 cu. ft.) General Electric Garbage Disposal (FA 600; Batch or Continuous Feed?) Whirlpool or Sears Trash Compactor (Free-Standing? Built-In?) Hoover portable washer and Maytag portable dryer are also recommended.

So I would figure there would be at least Eight to Twenty-Four Households, and each of these combinations would be in the four basic colors (Avocado, Harvest Gold, Coppertone & White).

Based on your knowledge & acquisition of some of these appliances, what might these "households" own or be depicted, if someone were to have actually bought these appliances Klamkin recommended? Would there be "enough to go around"?

I dont know...

About that book, but I have some friends who bought everything consumer reports said to in 1963...Frigidaire Custom Imperial washer Sears Lady Kenmore dryer, Kitchen aid kds15 " Actually its a 64 model", Frigidaire Custom Imperial fridge, Deluxe cooktop and wall oven,Broan vent hood, and an Iron Fireman oil furnace, a heat pump replaced the furnace in the 80s, the ice maker went out on the fridge, so it went, but with the exception of the washer, which was used until last year, with only a new agitator in the 80s, they are all still going, and Steve Riley has the washer, which he uses about daily!
