Thermador built-ins available - Waterbury, CT

I was down in Waterbury this weekend to pick up a dishwasher (well, parts anyway...) I had to ask the owner of the house where it came from, I noticed there were a pair of Thermador built-in ovens (electric) and an electric built-in range unit. I had to ask what was happening to them (I noticed the new gas range ready to be installed, and they are available for sale! I remembered to bring a camera with me, but forgot to put the memory card, so I don't have any pictures, but all three pieces are in very good shape. The ovens are amazingly clean, and the timers still work on them. One oven had a broken handle, but the current owner has a replacement one. On that same oven, the broiler unit doesn't work.
The range unit has four burners and it looks like just one is an original Thermador one. All burners work and the enamel finish is in great shape. The current owner said that the units seemed slow to heat, but they did admit that they were used to gas ranges...
There is also a beautiful NuTone range hood in stainless. I was tempted by that...

If they thought the surface units were slow to heat, was this range so original that it was an early Thermador that used the wide TK units that look like Frigidaire Radiantubes? The people who think gas is faster than electric amuse me because in most cases the BTU input does not match wattage of a good surface unit when you use the conversion factor to compare wattage to BTUs and the efficiency is not nearly as high. If they were accustomed to a gas stove, it might be that they have cookware without flat bases which would make electric elements perform poorly.

Funny you should ask about the elements - the element that I presumed to be the remaining original one did look like a Frigidaire radiantube one! I have to admit that I recall the 55 Frigidaire range we had in the house in town seemed to take some time to boil a pot of water compared to the GE calrods on the cook top we had down in the townships. I had a gas range while living in Brazil back in 2006-2007 but frankly I found it a pain to get down to a nice even simmer.

My 1954 Frigidaire range has 208 volt elements on the front units. They are from an apartment range John took in many years back. I moved the original 8 inch 2050 watt element back to the left rear deepwell position to replace the 1700 watt element originally put there. The 6" element running on 230 puts out a very respectable 1500 watts or so and was great for stir frying because once it got hot, nothing could pull the heat out of it faster than it could replace it with all of the mass of the Radiantube. It's a good thing I was not into souping up car engines. I would have no doubt been killed trying to find out the results of my latest tweek.

Upper oven - the owner does have a replacement handle for the door and I was told that the broiler on this oven does not work. I saw inside the oven and it was as clean as the day it was installed, so I think it may be a bad connection somehwere.

And the range unit - note both the front units - I thought just the left front was an original, I believe both the front ones to be the original units. Sure looks like a radiantube, doesn't it?? And isn't that stainless NuTone hood to die for??

I once replaced an 8" burner on a Frigidaire range and the used replacement I had was an older model with a different connector which took much more time to heat. It didn't have the same resistance either. (in the picture, all burners were turned on at full power at the same time (and all had regular infinite switches).

I then replaced it again with a correct burner and it was much quicker.

The shape of Frigidaire burners seems slightly different from the one on the Thermador.

If anyone gets these, install the lower oven on top of the former upper oven. It obviously got much less use, probably on holidays and such and will last longer without the need for major service.

They were closer! Thermador was GOOD! quality stuff!
