Our dryer has been doin this really weird thing where somethin is bumping the cabinet while the machine is going. So every once in a while the cabinet lurches around... what is wrong with the dryer? Is it the drum bumping the cabinet? It's a Whirlpool, about 5 years old...

Check the front felt seal where the drum rides(other side of the door opening on the front panel)....sometimes it becomes unglued and bunches up and thumps. Also check the idler pulley and belt. They used a "skid idler" that has a piece of teflon material that the belt rides against. Replace it with the idler with the pulley wheel p/n 691366. Hope this helps!!

My ASKO dryer was making a "thumping" noise, and when the service tech came out he said the rollers were bad. He claimed that because I had the dryer so close to the wall (I was so proud of myself as I had the dryer backed right up to the wall so it was a direct shot thru the vent with no hose) that the dryer was getting too hot, which caused the rollers to go bad prematurely. I went along with it because it was covered under warranty and I just wanted it fixed, but does that sound normal and could that be your problem?

Jamie, it is probably a roller with a peice broken out of it?

You never heard anything so noisy until you have experienced a 1-18 dryer. Almost noiser than the washer.

Generally you want decent clearance around the entire cabinet of the dryer, to prevent excess heat buildup in the machine or radiated to the wall. My guess is that 6" all'round is a good starting point, and a foot is better.

In some cases this may also be a fire safety issue.

Pulsator-- While these other theories are intriguing, I am here to tell you what's ACTUALLY WRONG with your dryer.

It is possessed. Possessed by demons. The only cure is to drive a wooden stake through its lint filter.

Good luck. And watch out for flying split-pea soup!

it sounds like your rollers are bad. It made that kind of sound. I know,i have repaired a few driers before with that problem.

LOL frigilux, thats nice humor there.

We have all been through the thought that SOME machines are possesed but often you can find an explanation to everything. And often solve it too.
