Hey guys,
Am needing some advice and hope to get some good opinions. As you know I have a SQ432 washer that isn't HE. My question is would be be alright to couple it with a new HE dryer? Are HE dryers strickly made for HE washers? There is nothing wrong with the Whirlpool dryer that I currently have but am thinking of replacing it with something that stands taller, like on a pedestal for easier loading and unloading. In the past, esp. in the summer, I've been able to use some clotheslines with my Dad helping me, so dryer usage was limited. This may change though in the coming future.
I would be open to recommendations on dryers, different brands and options. I don't have the funds right now to replace both units but getting a new dryer would help.
Age has caught up with me and I was diagnosed with lower spinal arthritis, and bending down or stooping over can be quite painful for me, esp. in the winter months or when there is a lot of moisture in the air. I do pretty good in the summer months right now, except for some stiffness, but my condition is progressive. Growing older is NOT for sissies! What I'd give to be the way I used to be!!! Thoughts?

Best Dryers

Hi Barry, Consider putting your current dryer on a pedestal or other homemade platform elevating it to a height that is comfortable to use for you.

There is no dryer on the market that will work any better or use any less energy other than switching to a natural gas dryer or an all heat-pump dryer.

If you are trying to watch costs your current dryer should last at least another twenty years, I would estimate that you will spend something around $20-$40 a years in maintenance and repair costs to keep this machine in top operating shape for another 20 years.

If you really want a new dryer I would get a SQ front controlled dryer and put it on a pedestal, with its side swung door and elevated height it could be used even if one had to use a wheelchair.

Thank you so much for the replies. Am definitely going to raise it up some, it's been a good dyer and I can't complain about it. Its never given me any problems, ever. It willl be a good spring project to do. Hate getting older.

The way I see it you have 2 good options:

Both have been outlined by John and others upthread.  One thing to consider though with the Speed Queen front control unit on a riser is that as this condition progresses it may be easier to use.  Also you can add a SQ FL which is also very user friendly should the need arise.  I've included a photo of mine on the risers so you can see what you would have.
