This is my dream set...

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

IT DEF IS HARD TO CHOOSE....

Hey Stepanie,

I've been thinking about painting them, when they
are up and running. They have been in storage
since I bought them last year, as I am in the process
of getting a house.

The body should be easy to paint, but the I'd need
advice about painting the porcelain tops. I guess
some sort of Etching Agent must be used first, but
I have never attempted.

Any Tips or Suggestions Anyone? They would be Turquoise or Yellow.

Drew -- Awesome pair of turquoise -- but you do know
how to needle.... LOL.

Travis that's a great offer, and very generous, regarding
the Pink Pair for Stephanie......I think they may have her
name written on them:)

Wishing Everyone the MaytagS of Their Dreams.

Louis

@ Tennblondie78 it seems you have won!!

Now don't forget to video you jumping up and down and waving your arms about... :o)

@ Travis you Sir have restored my faith in human kindness !!

Now can someone explain to me how far apart these dream machines and their new owner are?

Austin

Holy Cow, Travis! Thank you!!! :)

I have never met a better bunch of people than the ones on AW!! Pics, pics, pics!!! I would love, love, love the washer, but I have to have an electric dryer. I don't have access to gas. Are you willing to split the pair up?

@Ozzie: I am about 5 hours from St. Louis.

I have replied privately.

Just to be clear, these are unrestored and a bit rougher. I have a turquoise pair also. If I go to all the work to restore a set, the turquoise set will win!

I will take some pictures on Sunday. I have no problem in splitting the pair if I can find a taker for the dryer. I don't want the lonely dryer weeping its mate in my garage. If that happens, it will end up being scrapped.

If anyone is looking for a Pink gas Maytag please let me know.

Thanks Travis

Maybe it's time for a midwest wash-in later this year...Lots of MN, IA, NE, MO members with lots of donor machines are all within a few hours of each other... Seems the colored 'tags pop up in IL pretty regularly. Hmmm....

@tennblondie78..

5 hours is that doable?

I was going to ask if the dryer could be converted it seems it is then??

have never done such a thing here as we have hardly any gas dryers unless you go for the big guns in the laundry.

Well good luck anyways with getting and restoring the set from Travis am sure others on here will know all about getting them fixed :o)

Austin..

That dryer could be converted to propane and run off a bottle pretty easily. My wife's family is in Ecuador and that's how it's done there since almost no one has gas available at their homes or the higher voltage needed for electric. It's at least worth considering.

I'm not really interested in running it off of a bottle. I don't have a donor dryer to steal parts off of, so I'm not sure what I would be getting into with the dryer. I wouldn't mind converting it to electric if I could get parts easily... I just don't know. 5 hours is a doable drive. That's not a problem.

HOH dryers are still popping up on CL with some frequency.  My suggestion would be that, if you have room to store the pink dryer for the time being, to grab it and keep an eye out for a donor.  Depending on the dryer model itself from Travis (Electronic Control or not) will help in understanding which donors will work.  If it is timed dry model then any HOH will work.  If it is an Electronic Control model, then you'll want to find a DE407, or a DE606/DE806.

I could store the dryer until I got parts if conversion is a feasible thing. If I got the right part numbers, I guess I could buy parts separately as I found them on ebay and whatnot. I would have to lean on the good people of AW for guidance through the conversion and restoration process, though... It could be a group project! LOL! :) We could document the whole thing for future reference/posterity.

That's what I like

so much about this place. Everyone works together, helps each other and gives encouragement. This is such a great group of people. I'm honored to be a member of AW.

.

My pink set from 1958. The original pink dryer that came with this set was gas. I already had an electric dryer in white, from 1959. So I used the pink top and control panel, and had the white cabinet painted pink. I had the washer cabinet repainted pink at the same time. It makes a great looking set, and is one of my favourites.

AW is a GREAT Support System.......

Stephanie,

Maybe there is someone who has a Pink Electric, that would
interested in trading for a Pink Gas one. That could be
alot easier.

RickR Your Pink Set is Awesome.

If anyone knows where I can get a Pair of Turquoise or
Yellow Tops, for the A700S & DE700, I would def change
them out and repaint the Cabinets.

OR...Does anyone know If, or How, the porcelain Tops could
be Repainted?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Happy "Maytagging" Everyone :)

Louis
