So.... This morning I went over to Lovepuppy's house as promised, to check out a water leak and no regular speed operation (low speed only) on her beautiful Harvest Gold Whirlpool Mark 18 set.

By the way.... THIS is Lovepuppy and she is 10 months old. Isn't she cute?? Awwww!

Actually Natalie and her husband Paje where VERY nice and we sat and talked for 45 minutes or so while having toasted bagels and orange juice. It was a very nice way to start the morning. They have a beautiful home with a great view!

OK... so on to business!

She said there was a water leak and I suspected (hoped) it was the dispenser hose where it connects to the tub. I filled the washer with water and confirmed it was leaking from that hose.

I lifted the lid and was very surprised how CLEAN this washer is! No rust anywhere in site! They admitted they cleaned the tub ring, but even then... CLEAN!

BTW... after noting the serial number and checking with Gordon, it was determined the washer was built in March of 1976.

SO CLEAN!!!

Again... I was amazed how clean this machine is... obviously it was used very little until Natalie and her "hubbers" bought the house with the washer & dryer 2 years ago.

I've NEVER seen a spin tube this shiny... and this is without cleaning anything!

Natalie and Paje were SO enthused and excited about this entire process that I got them involved by putting them to work... LOL

With the dispenser hose now sealed and reinstalled, Natalie puts the wash basket back in the washer.

Note the look in her husbands face.... just priceless!

Checking the motor to find out why it was not working on anything but low speed.... turns out one of the wires had come off the motor. I re-crimp the connector and reinstall it.

Again, Natalie was so enthused that she INSISTED on closing up the back of the washer as she grabbed the tools right out of my hand! I love they way her hubby just watches... not even offering to help! LOL

Just kidding Paje![this post was last edited: 5/2/2010-23:09]

So here is the happy couple with their spectacular WP Mark 18 set all put back together and ready for use!
(Can't forget Lovepuppy too... actually her name is Pebbles, their other dogs name is Bam Bam... LOL)

Nice work, i like the orange plastic arrow on the dryer dial, an old school "favorite cycle" marker. Kevin now that you fixed them up they could last another 35-40 years nice work, on well taken care of Whirlpool's. alr2903

A well done job. It's nice to see such a well cared for machine back in action! Thanks for the pics. It's really nice to see faces to go with the names.

RevvinKevin's visit to "lovepuppy".....

@revvinkevin.....

So..... how did the visit go???

But more importantly, is the Washer repaired, and up and running again????

They look like a nice couple too, by the way....

Congratulations on a very good deed

Love the wall mounted cutoffs. Have seen those in magazine pictures of fancy laundry rooms. Is the little green lantern yours or theirs?

If people had tongues like Lovepuppy, would there be a market for Kleenex?

Yay, Kevin! How nice of you to fix this for Natalie and Paje! They look just as eternally grateful for your help and expertise as we are. You helped save another gem from a very premature death. Congratulations!

Actually I want to clarify.....

..."Lovepuppy's" real name is "Pebbles" (should've said that in the first post). But she is the real owner of the WP Mark 18 set! ;-)

Also, after seeing photos of Roberts basement, both Natalie and her husband want to find vintage detergent boxes, ads, posters and other "stuff" to decorate their laundry room!

If anyone has any suggestions for them, OR some extra "stuff" you'd be willing to sell, contact Natalie (Lovepuppy) via e-mail.

Kevin

OK, so I have a question for you Mr. Kevin....

I see you in the ever-familiar pose that I've been in a hundred times where the machine is pivoted forward and I'm working on access to the machine from underneath. There's Paje leaning over the machine, "supervising".

My question - who or what is holding the machine from falling forward, etc? You didn't leave little Natalie to hold it now did you?

If this were a contest...

I would have to say, without a doubt, this has been my favorite post on this website. I applaud those who went out on a housecall to save a couple of machines from certain death because of a couple of simple fixes. I applaud the wonderful owners of these machines for having the courage to keep these machines and allow a couple of strangers into their home to get them fully functioning again.

I really feel like that is the best direction for this group. Not only are we here because we love these vintage machines and the quality at which they were made, but also foster that love into others who may not have thought otherwise. Rather than scramble to try and selfishly obtain these beauties for ourselves, we were able to leave them right where they should be in the hands of very good care and appreciation.

This could be a made-for-TV movie because the ending is perfect...or rather a new beginning?

Welcome to the club Natalie, Paje, Pebbles, and Bam Bam!!!

Jon
