This NEW Washer-Am I The Only One???

Hi Everybody!
I have been reading and admiring this board for some time now and have found it very useful and entertaining. Especially with my recent washing machine "experiences".
I am now on my 8th NEW FL Washer in exactly 2 years-yes that's right; 8 washers, 4 brands, 2 years!
Due to modern major mass manufacturing processes and lack of individual functional testing, today's machines are not very well built nor reliable-and I've had a few lemons!!!
So, the "newest" (and hopefully LAST) addition to the mess arrived a few weeks ago.
And I seem to be the only one who has one so far!
It's the new BOSCH "VISION"
I have the 800 Series-Model:WFVC8440UC/19
Features:
4.4Cu Ft. capacity Front-Load wash system
1200RPM Spin
15 Program Cycles including XXSanitary-(@170)+Baby Care-(@155)
AVS=AntiVibration System
Eco Smart
Active Clean Wash System-it has the ability to turn 13 gallons of water into the washing power of 400 gallons.
46Db quiet sound-it is definitely the QUIETEST washer I have NEVER heard!!!
And so far, it does a pretty Darned good job!
Oh, and the BEST part?
NO ANGLED DRUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I despise angled drums and after my last 2 BOSCH washers I can confirm what I always knew before even having one:
ANGLED TUBS ARE A FAILURE
OK, enough of my rant.
As for the dryer, it is simply a WHIRLPOOL Compact 110v as I live in an apartment and have no electrical for a full size dryer-(thankful for that 1200RPM spin!)

Thanks to all of you who post and share your experiences, your adventures, and your love for all these wonderful appliances.

Oh, and there are also 2 BOSCH dishwashers in the Kitchen for those of you wondering about my choice in dishwashers
And a MIELE vacuum in the closet!

Bosch Nexxt

I had a Bosch Nexxt set in Platinum and they were mediocre at best. I didn't like the tilted drum and the Archie Paddles made washing large items next to impossible.

I sold on Craigslist and moved on...

The Speed Queens are far better, IMO.

Hi BoschMan.

I dont have 220v in my apt and I cant swing the gas service to where I need it...

So I use a standard North American elecric dryer (full-size) and simply supply the heating element with 110v. I don't need to do anything invasive, but simply supply the 110v in various ways to a standard 4-conductor 30a (220v rated) dryer plug and outlet.

Takes a long time, but fewer wrinkles than using a compact.

Electronic sensors would work best. Mine is a time-temo auto-dry. To get it to shut off the dryer I can only use the "low" heat setting and turn it on to the shortest auto-dry cycle.

Hope you find a front-loader that lasts!

I saw the new Vision series the other day and it did look like it had a true horizontal drum unlike my Nexxt which definitely had a bit of a tilt. It appeared to be a major engineering redesign from the former models, since it also had a totally different detergent drawer, different * shorter paddles, can be stacked now, etc. The dryer seemed much more similar to the old Nexxt.

Given the significant changes in the washer it almost made me wonder if it was an OE rebadge of somebody else's model but I'm not aware of anyone else other than SQ making large horizontal-axis washers... the HA Miele's are the EU ones that are relatively tiny.

Let us know how it turns out!

Hahah that's the best I've heard in years XD. Here in Belgium Miele introduced in a silent way their new range of washer with a TRUE 8kg drum! SO I don't think miele is tiny... they are not tiny at all!!!!!

As you see the door is diffferent but I like the new classic style!

Seriously...

I am beginning to think that this drive to be the largest capacity washer for the home is gonna have to come with some sacrifice.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

I think the ultimate sacrifice is longevity of the equipment. I just don't think they are building these uber machines with enough substance to tolerate the forces created by driving 20 lbs of dry laundry soaked down with water. The tub bearings and suspension just don't seem to be enough to handle it.

Just my opinion...

Compromises have to be made.

If you look at the current offerings in large-capacity front loaders, you will notice an abundance of plastic under that fancy blue paint. Open up the cabinet, and there are many pieces of thin sheet metal that hold the whole frame together. The trim pieces are always the the first parts to be downgraded, and eventually the more critical parts have to be made of cheaper materials in order to keep the machine affordable. And then, there's the general populace that expects to run two king-sized comforters in one load, and smaller loads in between. Indeed, it's no wonder that today's equipment gets set for a short life. You get what you pay for.

Miele little lie ...

Askomiele the W5983 in the pic you posted isn't a real 8 Kg machine. Its cylinder is 62 cu. decimetre wide so it's a 6-6.5 Kg machine and the machine outer size is the standard 60x60x85 centimetre (for our american friends like your small mieles e.g. W1918)

Not a case the new Miele professional 8 kg washer (Octoplus W6080) is 102x70x72 cm and has a 80 cu dec. drum (same sizes of the american W4800....)

Now, let's face it, what Malcom wrote about compromises in quality build is true and, not a case, Miele doesn't sell the W4800 in Europe. They don't want to make any (big) compromise here, where everybody expects the best from miele. So they prefer to lie about capacity rather about quality.

Check the price difference between a household "small" miele and a Little Giant : it is 1000 ---> 1800 euro vs 2500 euro

The Octoplus costs about 4500-5000 euro, so this leads to guess that a real 8kg household washer would cost about 3000 euro. But from what I understand the W4840 is not much more expensive than standard mieles ....

Well by "relatively tiny" I was referring mainly to the 303x series here in the US which I think are about 2.x cubic feet vs. roughly twice that for the Vision. Those machines appear to be absolutely built like tanks (more than the W484x), but the size could be an issue for a big family with a lot of laundry. And the W484x has a tilted drum to boot...another compromise.

Are you sure about that?
I checked that machine out yesterday and it was slightly deeper than a traditional Miele. I didn't check the interior but from my point of view it is a real 8kg. Miele had a 6 kg drum installed in a 60 x 60 x 85, so why should the make their cabinet larger without increasing their drumsizes... maybe it's time to mail the Miele company it self, shall I or do you want to do that I would like to know their respons on that one

Oh and what you are saying about compromises and miele... I agree with you. Miele will never make a compromis overhere. Some people reffer to them as luxurous, I tell them they make washers how they have to be made! And because the market in the states does not really like the traditional mieles, they had to come with an answer...

Miele has ever stated drum volumes in their technical sheets. Now they don't do anymore for their household washers ...

Anyway :

-the euro W7XX W8XX W9XX W2XXX series (I guess even the "small" american W19XX and W12XX) have a 49 cu dec drum and are rated 5 Kg

-the euro W4XXX and euro/US W3XXX have a 54 cu decimetre drum (rated 6 Kg)

- the W5XXX and W6XXX have the 62 cu dm drum and are 61.5 cm deep. Some are rated 7 Kg and the latest ones 8Kg (for cottons, in other programmes they have the very same max load)

- the Little Giants - both the 5.5 Kg (54 cu dm) and the 6.5 KG (59 cu dm) models are 71.5 cm deep because of the ubersized bearings (here come also those extra 1000-1500 euro)

For our american friends : please note we often mean "litre" also as "cubic decimetre", so it's easy to confuse drum volume with water consumption.

Interesting drum Sizes

"the drive to be the largest capacity washer for the home is gonna have to come with some sacrifice", never a true work has been spoken, and all because the consumer wants "BIG" now I can reason with that because of top loader / large load washing but unless the machine components can withstand the extra stress it isnt going to be long before the Euro large capacity machines start giving up the ghost!!

And because size is deceptive..!!! would you say this W1756 Miele washing machine has the larger dum capacity??

The boot diameter is the same in both the W1756 and in the W5740. But the door frame is bigger in the W1000 W4000 W6000 than in the W3000/5000 series .... so the W1756 looks bigger than the W5740, while actually it is the opposite about capacity

Anyway the W1756 is the only -euro- W1000 having a metal door frame. Looks much better than the usual polycarbonate doors on this series. Pity it is available only in UK !

OK favo don't shoot me!

I emailed Miele and they told me (hopefully they are not lying), for professional equipment they use the 1:10 cotton ratio, 1kg = 10 liter => 8kg means a drum of 80 liter. For householdequipment they use 1:9 to 1:9,5. So before we discuss capacity we have to agree what kind of ratio we will discuss! What they could confrim is that the 7 kg miele has a drum with a capacity of 66 liters, the 8 kg version (comming soon) 76 liters. It's still smaller than that speedqueen or professionel equipment. Besides... it's more fun to do smaller loads than doing 1 big load and not been able to enjoy it

Do believe it : even the new LG F1443KD (rated 11 Kg ... no comment) has a 78 litre drum despite being just 4 cm deeper than the standard 60. The price is about 1000 euro.

Here the only 8 KG Miele on sale now is the W5983 (a somewhat 8kg version of the W3923-3943). Is a TOL model with all the "bells & whistles" as weight detection with correct detergent dosage suggestion and a flood of useless programmes. Its price is 1500-1800 euro. so I guess MOL 8 Kg models will cost around 1300 euro and BOL 8KG mieles even 1000

The price difference is not so huge, so I'm wondering about LG quality, can't rely on our american friend feedback, cause their models are made for their market and have totally different programmes and water levels

For sure here LG frontloaders are getting more and more popular despite their prices , so I assume they have a good feedback, unlike their non heated toploaders had when they appeared some years ago. Now these TL are almost disappeared here.
