What a treasure! How I miss the "painted ladies" I grew up with in NY. Boston Victorians tend to be more plain. It must be a Puritan thing. Yours is just stunning. Does it have steam heat? How many fireplaces? Thank God the woodwork was never painted.

I am guessing that woks in that climate (financially) and can be zoned easily making for further good economic sense.

Sorry not to read the above messages carefully. 8 fireplaces, but electric heat? Did they run new ductwork? I just imagined that being so large and with three floors the heat would originally have been steam with cast iron radiators, with bangs and clunks galore.

Love your new house. I own a Queen Anne from 1897 too but not that ornate. Congrats! A word of caution. Before you use those fireplaces, make sure you have them inspected! Go up into the attic and check the chimneys too. Hire a professional to do all of this. I just want you to be safe. Bring on these victorian houses! Gary

Thanks everyone. They only use a couple of fireplaces with gas logs.The central heat and air are newly installed and has blown in insulation. This home didn`t have steam heat, and they ran the ductwork for the ground floor underneath and the top floor has a seperate unit and ductwork in the attic. Should be easy to heat although probably a bit expensive I plan on using only a couple of rooms during the cold winter months, the kitchen and a bedroom with a bath. We`re going to start cleaning it up this weekend and we are hoping to have the wedding in a church across the street on May 6th during the town festival and have a casual reception at the house. Anybody passing thru please stop by!

Here's a pic of the nicest old Vicky back in my hometown. I believe a builder from Chicago built it and a few more in town because they're very similar and you'll find almost duplicates of this house across the river in Port Huron Mi. as well. Take away all turret etc on this one and you'll find that many of these houses, even from different builders have many similarities in the general shape and design. That's not the original fence shown, this house originally had a black wrought iron railing and in the corner there was a beautifully ornate fountain which long ago disappeared.

Like that one Pete!There were several around ours for sale but most needed structural repairs that were going to be expensive. Ours has a nice large kitchen and I can hardly wait to get started on it! It has a large pantry with a spot for the washer dryer, and shelves for my other small appliances.
