Is that an iron fence around the property? I was wondering if there's any history to the house, obviously it was built by or for an upper middle class family. When's possession date by that I mean when do you get the house, not when the ghostly inhabitants get you.. LOL

Yes its an iorn fence, and there is a ghost. It`s Mr. Henry the man who built it.The owners have a lot of photos from the original family and they are letting us have them. It was owned by the same faimily until 1979 when a Dr. bought it and restored it. We are buying it from the Dr. so we will be the third family. We hav`nt signed papers yet, just found out at noon they accepted our offer. Also christie is from Nashville, about a 2hr drive from here and will have to find another job. We met on the HGTV message boards last summer and met at the big Nashville Flea Market. Life is interesting at times! :)

Even better that you're getting old photo's as well. Would be interesting to know what the color of the house was in that photo. BTW, obviously a bank cashier was more than a teller. LOL

I have always admired people who restore and/or maintain "Painted Ladies". I'm positive that this home will remain the gem that it is. Congratulations!

stunning .......... love all the "detail" ........ good for you, you deserve it :)

3rd times the charm

Don, the house is absolutely gorgeous! Love the gingerbread trimmings, and the stained glass.
Simply beautiful!
Good luck, and I hope you and your fiance will enjoy your lives together for many, many years in this lovely, well cared for home.

How beautiful!

I love all the stained glass. Especially at night.

The woodwork and the fireplaces are almost too good to be true.

It's awesome that it's only had several owners and that every one of them took very good care of it.

Congrats!

Mike

Very nice house. There are similar mansions here in the oldest parts of town, but not quite as ornate as yours. Right after I bought my '41 house, an old mansion that a friend had owned went up for sale. Similarly situated as yours, in the middle of a big fenced lot. I already had my hands full, but it was a very nice place. In San Francisco there are tons of old victorians that have been spectacularly restored, but most of them are townhouse style; that is, snugged up against each other. The ones that are set off from the property lines are insanely expensive.

Thanks everyone for the compliments! we`re very happy to have found the house and each other and cam hopefully keep it in as good condition as the previous oners have.

Donnie, I can't quite tell in the old b/w photo, but are those lightning rods on the roof back then. Those things always intrigued me on those older houses. Especially the ornate ones that had a ball at the base.

Petek,

Mark Twain wrote a very amusing essay on lightning rods...

Aside from that, as I once read, the balls on lightning rods are supposed to help absorb the bolt without destroying the rod. This is perhaps why those gold balls often appear on the top of flagpoles.

Or maybe they just look cool.

Pete and Rich, I never even noticed that! Will have to check it out in some of the other old pics. One thing about having a big house is that I`ll have a vaccum for every room! :)
