Long time no post, It's been a busy few months here in VA, but I wanted to tell you guys about this cheap rust remover I found. I don't work for these people, but thought I'd help make our lives easier in this crazy economy.
A few months back, I bought one of those mid-60's triple tier serving pieces only to find one of the screws had rust welded in one of the plates. I knew I needed something that would be safe on porcelain, so I went down to the Dollar General and bought a toilet bowl cleaner called "The Works" for $1.50. I poured the stuff into a plastic container and soaked the rusty screw in the stuff. To my surprise, it came out!
I tried it again on a couple of other rusty products around the house, the track to the Cobramatic on the Zenith Console and an old toy pot I found in the garage. Both came out without a spot of rust on them. I then put a coat of paint on each and they looked like new. I'll use this from now on when I need to get rid of rust off smaller things, the only problem is that I am now afraid to use it in the toilet. I wonder, if it will eat away rust in a matter of minutes, what is it doing to my pipes?
I should have taken some before and after pics fellas, but it works really well. I'll see if I can find something else to soak and take pictures.
Here's a couple of things to remember if you use it... Don't get it on you or your clothes (it burns like the dickens/takes the color out of clothes) and be careful what you put it on (the stuff stained an old kitchen counter I set the bottle on and discolored some stainless steel that it splashed on)
