This week was Bendix week!

Hello, As the title says, this week was Bendix week, I took on two more vintage Bendix appliances.

The first appliance being another Bendix Compact 7159 made by Eudora in Austria. The machine was offered to me by a local chap, it worked but didnt spin. When I got it home I replaced the spin OOB microswitch (These things are full of microswitches!) and it has been fine ever since. Minimal cleaning needed, it had been used shortly when it was new but as a spare since. Managed to collect it on route home from Brighton, and its so small we managed to fit it on the back seats of Phil's car!

On the other side of the scale...quite litterally at 160kg!

..I also got a Bendix washer dryer model LT. This was a machine that Mikey Clark saved a few years ago on eBay, which went on to James Bodell who never used the machine. When I had seen the machine running at Mikey's, it was clear the machine wasnt water tight and would need a lot of work to bring back up to a good condition.

As it happened, I had won a users and service manual for this very machine a day or so before being offered the machine, which was very co incidental, but better that the manual and machine were together!

Yesterday I set about assessing the machine. I actually got it on Tuesday (i think, been a long week) but hadnt looked at it bar the really clear plinth hanging off. Yesterday I inspected all hoses and found a hose linking the filter sleeve to the drain pump to be perished. Was a job to get the old one off, will be harder to get the new one on but will cross that bridge later. With the hose removed I took the filter out which hadnt been cleaned for a few years by the looks of it, and took an oppotunity to clean the machine up a bit. Suprisingly its cleaned up okay so far, still a long long way to go though. Also powered it up, pleased to say that the machine spins and tumble driers with a working heating element. It was a relief to know it works though!

So, from what I have concluded so far from looking at it is, it will need...
-new inlet valves or some sort of adapter. They're imperial 1/2'' size, not 3/4''
-new sump hose
-gearbox oiling
-plinth re attaching. One of the springs had broken, and the other was intact but not connected to the plinth. Hoping to make something with magnets!
-Possible new door seal. Might be able to mend it with puncture repair kit patches, or might have to try and make a later Bendix gasket fit.

Picture two showing the lid off. No screws, just a release tab in the centre of the front panel as seen below. Soap just goes through a funnel on the lid through into the top of the tub. No liquid dispensers here!

behind the plinth now (Should have added that the plinth was taped up in image 1). As you can see theres a missing link between that filter sleeve and the pump, where the perished pipe was. Not looking foward to refitting...

Showing the door after a clean. Despite the pitting, i think it looks alright for its age. Twist dial anti clock wise and pull!

Final image, of the machine cleaned up (Exc plinth). I say cleaned up, it's better than it was but theres still a long way to go with it. (Grubby fingers on buttons..ugh!)
