I'm new to the group and love the topics info and friendships that have developed as i have looked from afar. I have a few twin tub machines and just finished a restoration of a Hotpoint 1400 that i bought from ebay. Finally finished all the repairs and love the look of the machine but won't use it to often as worried i will get worn out again. !!! I have bought a Thor semi automatic with pedals to operate between functions . The machine needs a total rebuild but i can not manage to find any info at all on how to dismantle or understand how it works. When plugged in it's totally dead. Does anyone have any info that they may be able to share with me. It would appear their are very few about , however i know some of these rarities exist in the states and here in the UK. This is a photo of the 1400 on the first test wash !!

If you can post a few pictures of your new Thor, I might have some Thor service information that can be loaded into the Daily Doctrine Dispenser. Never heard of a Thor with Pedals, that's why I want to be sure first.

Thor Automagic 244

Hi SlowSpin,

Welcome to the club, that 1400 looks great and the same as mine.

The Thor you are mentioning is the last model made, 244 which had the pedals to operate the wash & spin actions, they were great machines and remember one in particular very vividly as a kid on holiday. I managed to get hold of 2 of these machines over my time in collecting, but have had to let them both go to the washer heaven up above !!

They have a nightmare drive system, the wash action is gearbox driven but to activate the spin this is achieved by friction clutch, and this is where the problem comes in. Both of my machines have failed at this point.

I have the service manual if you need a copy of it. Good luck on the path ahead.

Cheers
K

thor washer

Thanks for your interest in the Thor. It's resting in my friends garage at the moment so have not started to work on it yet. It's really dirty and as i said needs a total refurb. please don't be shocked by it's state. It will take a load of tlc to get it up and running again. Thanks again Darren

that Hotpoint came up great

Well done Darren, You made a grand job of that one.
I know where there is a MK 1 servis twin tub if you are intrested.
Still in good working order and not that far from you.
Call me if you are intrested.

Hi Darren,
Just something i have noticed with your 1400..have you put an electric pump on the spinner side ? I see the water is discharging but the lid is open ??
Regards
Keith

hotpoint 1400

Your right there i had to fit an electric pump to the spinner as the pumps had rotten. All the usual soap and incorrect storage over the years had done the damage. There is a bypass switch fitted to the base of the washer on the spinner side that you can put on with your foot if the spinner is over filled. The emergency drain at the back of the machine is no longer connected but there to keep the look of the washer. . Is there any possibility you would be able to let me have a copy of your service info for the Thor washer. ?? Regards Darren
