I saw on televison a commercial advertisement for Tide Act-lift laundry detergent.

Out of the corner of my eye I noted a front-loading washer. No big deal. Still, something was not right. So I replayed the commercial a few times.

THEY WERE BRITS! LOL

The washer looked unfamililiar.
The machine was fitted (built-in) into (kitchen?) cabinetry and had the cabinet door removed to be visible (the door's catch was visible).
The decor in the living room was different too, to be the USA.
The radiator on the wall was a Brit style "waffle" design (not done here).
Most living rooms here AFAIK don't have doors; only doorways.
The look of the actors and what they were wearing was slightly different that what we are used to.

Funny that at a fast glance it was all the same, but tiny little bits of difference tugged at my awareness.

Does anyone else get foreign...er sorry.. "international" commercials much? I guess we are used to those made for this market.......

We certainly do....

...and I think we can expect more of them too as brands become more international and markets less 'national' - i.e. there are less differences between them....

I agree. P:lus, look at the door to the right of the washer. I have not seen a "dutch" door like that in the U.S. in a very long time. Doesn't look like a typical back yard either outside the laundry room door. Nor the furnishing or fashions.

We had that kind of advertisement too here in Germany. There was one spot on TV about the detergent "Dash". But if someone would look closer one would see that the showed bottle is completely unlike German detergent bottles. It is more like a American one. I thought it was a Amercian spot for "Gain" and they just replaced the logo of the bottle. Watch it here:

The joys of Youtube

Well!

Not sure where it originated from but it either has two different (albiet similar) washing machines for, in the first shots (9secs) there are no hinges on the machine, and in later shots there are. I must say it seems VERY odd to me that they would have used an integrated washing machine with the decor door off. Check out the early shots with mother and daughter. Over mother's left shoulder is what looks like a 3 gang dimmer switch - is that style used in the USA? Not in my experience, and in fact the whole switch looks wrong to me, normally single and double gang switches of any kind are square (more or less) where US are rectangular - tall and narrow. Sure this is rectangular but thats only because it is 3 gang. Is that form of gate and iron fence work common in teh US?

Do you think we should be getting out more?

have to say it does look like a UK ad but something not quite right about it - perhaps it is just the voice over throwing me off the scent!

We get a lot of foreign ads in the UK overdubbed APPALLINGLY badly - they are like 1970's martial arts movies

I too saw the same ad Steve (Toggleswitch) did, and it was on ABC I believe.  I did notice too that the washer set-up looked somewhat British at first, but didn't give it a 2nd thought until it was mentioned here.  Guess I'll have to pay closer attention the next time it's on.

I have also seen commercials that seemed to me to not be shot in the USA. The big tells for me are the non-US appliances. I think if you look carefully, you will likely be able to spot one one such commercial. They often have only a voice over - the people in the commercial don't speak at all.

acti lift

just got off of tide website, looks like this "acti lift" isn't so great... lots of bad reviews, people saying it is terrible. why and the h@#$ do they keep changing tide? it's like PG is never satisfied.

Just Did A Wash Load Yesterday

Using Ariel avec "Acti-Lift" in "Alpine Fraiche" scent and so far am that well pleased. Mind you it's only the third time I've used the product so far.

Wash loads of whites came out clean, totally stain free, and brilliant white. Though know what some say about there being a "coated" feeling to the wash. Next time I have some sent from France, will see if it can be plain Ariel with the same scent.
