I had recently called the P&G customer service line to see if they had any information about whether or not the Simple Pleasures line would ever be revived. She was very nice, but didn't know of any plans at this time to start selling the product again.

She said she would like to mail me a "money saving coupon" for Tide as a thank you for calling w/my concern.

It came in the mail today - it was for a big one dollar off, lol.

Question - why is it that Tide coupons are always so little? Tide is the most expensive laundry line that P&G sells, and probably the most expensive detergent in the U.S., overall. You rarely see a Tide product on a clearance endcap, except occasionally in the powder form. The large liquid detergent bottles, even on sale, are usually $10.99, even at Target. Dollar stores even sell Tide at about the same price. Why is that, anyone know?

A few weeks ago I complained to Downy about the new April Fresh scent and that I wanted them to bring back the original April Fresh scent. They sent me an e-mail telling me that they were sorry that I didn't like the new scent, but the majority of their customers prefer the new April Fresh (Hah!)

Downy then sent me a letter touting the advantages of the new April Fresh that will continue to release scent for a long time after being washed. They included a coupon that was amazing. It was good for 1 free bottle of Downy, any size, any scent except for the wrinkle release formula. Quite a good deal IMHO. But 1 bottle of Downy lasts us at least 18 months, and that's the regular size.

Obviously we are not big users of fabric softener.

I don't bother with P&G

Except for a few things, I think most Proctor & Gamble products are overpriced anyway. On the occasions that they do have coupons (the "Brand Saver" inserts), they're rather stingy. These days I need at least $1 to get my attention. .25 or .50 off, or coupons where you need to buy 2 of something are not worth the time and energy it takes to find the scissors.

P&G Coupons

Have always received coupons good for "free" products whenever I've contacted P&G. Am using a bottle of Tide HE "free and clear" along with a brand new bottle of Tide Coldwater HE (also free and clear) as a result of such coupons.

Being as this may Tide seems to always be on sale at one local shop or another here. The Rite Aid store down the road had the stuff on sale a few weeks ago and it was on sale again just last week. Ditto Food Empourium, Associated and countless others.

For what is worth P&G especially where Tide and their other top shelf brands are concerned has taken a big hit lately. The current economic crisis has caused familes to tighten their belts and look for alternate products. Many are quite surprised to find these "cheaper" products work just as well as the P&G version, so the switch may last even when good times return. That has got many a Proctor and Gamble exec worried, and has affected their shares on Wall Street as well.

Good promotions here...

Albertsons here had it a few weeks ago at $4.99 for a 50 oz. bottle. I think King Soopers had it on sale earlier this year at $9.99 for a 100 oz. bottle.

The only Tide product I use is the Stain Release.

In the coupons, once in a while (actually quite often), there's a $3.00 off one for Stain Release.

I've never seen a detergent coupon for more than $1. Just the Stain Release is more.

Tide/Expensive

I definitely can believe that they're taking a hit on their most expensive products like Tide. If they hadn't been taking a hit on Tide overall, I think maybe they wouldn't have discontinued the Simple Pleasures line. If they're already struggling, they probably nix anything that isn't a strong seller accross the board.

I know some people feel that cheaper detergents work just as well, but I haven't found it to be the case for me. I've tried most of what is available in the U.S., and have not found cheaper products to work as well. Nor have I found any scents that I like as much as the Lavender/Vanilla scent. I bought the cheapo Sun detergent version of that scent, and it *sort* of smells like it in the bottle, but like most cheaper detergents, the scent doesn't linger on the clothes after they come out of the dryer.
