Tried it last night on a large load of jeans, with a striped ivory/black/burgundy/gold washcloth that's a serious lint-taker and doesn't do well with a full-on towels load, and a fairly grungy white handtowel.

Results were very good. No sudsing during EcoActive which made for proper water action. I was afeared that that the towel and washcloth would pick up a blue tinge, but they did not. I've heard that HE detergents have agents to guard against dye transfer in the concentrated, low-water-volume environment of HE machines.

Tide HE is an excellent detergent, no doubt! I used it exclusively for several years. I get a lot more sudsing, but your water is harder than mine, so I'll bet it works very well in those conditions.

Did you use the powdered or liquid variety, Glenn? I always used liquid, but I'd like to try the powder. Think I'll pick up a box and give it a try in the FL'er.

Generally, HE detergents have more agents which hold dye and soils suspended, since an entire load's dirt has to be suspended in a small amount of water. That's what I read at Tide.com, anyway.

Powder. I don't do liquids except under unusual circumstances ... or duress!

Here's a pic of the jeans washing. I made a splash shield out of a Kordite 28 oz. bowl. It begs for refinement, but works well enough. The one glitch IMO on the latest crop of F&P washers is a propensity to excess splashing on high water level at the more vigorous agitation speeds. My older GWL08 didn't do that, so it must be because of changes in agitation patterns along with a slightly higher fill. Being that there's not much of a tub ring, there can be a bit of splash-over, as well as flooding into the softener dispenser. I tried a plate first, but it interfered with the EcoActive stream. The bowl doesn't interfere with the upturned rim, but it still is effective-enough in blocking the splashes and directing them back into the tub.

That F&P is definitely a fun, splashy machine in action...I was quite surprised when I first saw how brisk the agitation could be. Your splash shield somehow reminds me of a Frigidaire as well, but it also resembles something from a GE...
