Tide Liquid now sold in Australian Supermarkets.

Hey Guys,

Wandering around my local Coles, I did a double take in the detergent aisle when I noticed that there was Tide Original and April Fresh Downy on our supermarket shelves!

I couldn't quite understand why it was there, I never thought there would be a need for Australian supermarkets to start importing american detergents to sell, i guess its just another 'lets try this out' idea. Its distributed by P&G Australia so maybe they want to break into the market with it. I don't know of any other P&G detergents on sale here.

Needless to say my excitement over seeing it prompted a tirade of sarcasm and eye rolling from the other half with comments like 'omg i hear they have water in america too, are u excited to see it here as well?!' (see what i have to put up with!). All in good fun though.

I am yet to buy it as I cant quite justify the hefty price tag of 20.99 for a small bottle at the moment.

What are peoples opinions of Tide HE liquid? Im wondering if they will follow on with other varients like Free and Clear or ColdWater.

I have not used dynamo maximum myself so i can't tell u if its any better than the original

I checked detergent ratings from Consumer Reports and at the top of the list was powdered Tide HE Vivid (containing bleach alternative), which scored an 82 out of 100 with all tested stains being removed.

It was the only high efficiency detergent (of sixty tested) which received excellent scores for cleaning ability in both warm (90 degree) and cool (75 degree) water. Consumer Reports recently began testing detergents in 75 degree water as well as 90 degree water, reflecting the lowered "warm" temp on most new American washing machines. The liquid version of Tide HE Vivid scores a 73/100 and is also near the top of the ratings. It was rated very good for cleaning, with a notation that blood stains were not completely removed.

Liquid Tide HE (shown on your supermarket shelf) scored 68/100, with a notation that blood stains were not completely removed.

The liquid version with Downy was not tested, but I would assume it scores about the same as its regular HE counterpart.

In other words: If the aforementioned powdered Tide HE Vivid was on your shelf, I'd say grab it! I use it and it cleans every stain you throw at it. If liquid Tide HE Vivid shows up, that's certainly worth a try, as well. The version you have access to probably doesn't clean any better (or possibly even not as well as) a top-rated Australian detergent.

Having said that...you really should buy a bottle of Tide to compare its cleaning power to Australia's best liquid and report back to us![this post was last edited: 6/29/2013-06:56]

And I Thought Tide Was Expensive in The States . . .

I was traveling on business in rural New Mexico earlier this week and popped into an Albertson's Supermarket between meetings to kill some time. They were selling a small bottle of Tide Total Care for $14.99, and I thought they were crazy! This deal certainly has that one beat!

I would definitely buy the Tide for the novelty value. If I could find a good Australian or UK detergent in my local area, I would probably buy it as well.

Tide With Downy

Is probably as close as one is going to get to the Downy FS scent of old.

Someone moving house gave us an almost empty bottle of the liquid stuff and noticed at once. It was a fragrance that took you straight back, well if you remember what Downy "April Fresh" smelled like years ago.

However like all Tide products the stuff packs a whiff and if you over dose you'll be smelling like the laundry section of the supermarket.

Thanks for the info guys, I will probably buy a bottle just for fun most of my laundry is coloured with only my stained kitchen linen as a heavy soiled white load. I use ariel bio on that as its never failed me. I guess as a liquid tide would over sud on 95 degrees. I do like the fragrance of the original scent, very clean and nice. I have used tide with downy before in the top loader formulation, it's a nice scent but over powering if too much used as has been mentioned. Thanks again guys

Dynamo maximum

Hi Supersuds, I have tried Dynamo Maximum and found it is a good solid performer, however it sells for around $16 per bottle, so one should wait until it is on special, you can on occasion get it for half price.
It is a thick liquid which needs to be used in warmer water to dissolve it properly, but as for performance it is quite good.
Matty, my local Coles did not have it in stock yesterday, so maybe it is only being trialled in selected stores.
It is quite good though to have a larger selection to choose from, don;t forget the USA Surf and liquid Ajax you can get from Chemist Warehouse.
Actually the liquid Ajax has now become my new favourite.

I have powdered Tide vivid and liquid vivid. I use both occasionally. The powdered contains oxygen bleach. The liquid contains bleach alternative. For me the powder cleans better than the liquid,but the Liquid rinses better than the powdered,however I am using temps between 105F and 140F. The powdered leaves my clothes rough,the liquid Won't clean tough stains.

As one has stated often; liquid detergents do not contain oxygen bleach and some stains response well to an alkaline wash water pH, hence....

Detergent is not cheap in this country, though not as expensive as the UK.

Most first tier detergents are 50-75 cents per load - 1kg boxes yield about 15-20 washes.

Curious, Plus the CR test.

Reading that CR is testing detergents in lower temps has me curious.
I checked my incoming cold water and it is 76 degrees, so I am going to try something for the next two weeks.

I have Tide Vivid powder with oxygen bleach, Persil megaperls for colors, and Miele for whites with Oxygen bleach. This week I am going to use Tide Vivid powder with cold water on the whites, and Next week I will use Miele detergent for the whites. Right now I am washing whites in cold using Tide Vivid Powder with oxygen bleach.

I normally do whites at 120F so these will be interesting results. Too bad I don't have Persil Megaperls for whites because the box says it provides excellent performance at 30C.

Is CR still testing with an 8 pound load or have they increased the amount since almost no one has a machine that only holds 8 pounds?

I have a 6K machine which is about 13.2 pounds but with my current load the tub is only 1/2 full, so that should be about 6.5 pounds.

Weigh it....put the washing in a basket and weigh you and it together...they just weigh yourself and subtract. If your machine is only half full, and assuming the load isn't all jeans, I'll bet that it weighs only about 4lb.

On another note, I wouldn't be surprised if the reason they use 8lb loads is because that's the 'average' a person washes regardless of capacity. According to our consumer magazine it is certainly the case here and Which? in the UK has said the same thing for their market.

I've used the liquid Tide like that before and its not bad at all. Then again, I buy that $20.99 bottle here locally at Price Rite for $9.49! Yow! I get the same sized bottle of Downey softener for $2.50 there also.
