Popped into local K-Sears to see what there was, and spied amoung the long shelves full of Tide detergents, Tide Simple Pleasures liquid detergent in "Rose/Violet" scent. As am not a huge fan of scented detergents, much less those by Tide, at first passed but then figured a quick whiff could'nt hurt. Well am here to tell you the stuff smells quite nice actually.

It is a soft rose floral scent that just might be wonderful for linens. As my detergent stash is already too large, and the only bottles were those large 100oz sizes at $16.99 gave it a pass. Had it been powdered detergent, may have given it more consideration, but my Miele does not like high sudsing liquid detergents, and Tide is notorious for high foaming detergents. Still may consider it when I've run down some of my stash. There is a fabric softener version (Downy liquid and dryer sheets), but K-Sears had none about.

You can get a free sample of the Tide Rose Violet scent by logging on to tide.com. It takes about 3-4 weeks to receive it. Whenever Tide offers a new product, they usually will send a sample upon request.

A little off the topic; but I noticed you said K-Sears. I know K-Mart and Sears merged a couple of years ago. We've never seen any changes in Sears here in Little Rock; at one time we had at least 4 K-Marts in the county but now only have in one; we still have two Sears stores. What is the K-Sears like. I visited my sister in Nashville Tn back in mid-summer. I noticed there they have a type of Sears store front that only carries Appliances and Tools./mark

"K-Sears" means that you can now purchase Craftman tools, Toughskin jeans, Kenmore appliances and other Sears brands at Kmart. No need to got to the mall anymore; if you are lucky to have a Kmart nearby, you are all set.

The lavender/vanilla Tide and Downy makes everything musty to me. The blue one is way too sweet and floral. I sent for my rose Tide/Downy samples, but it is highly unlikely I would switch to them for everyday washing.

Which reminds me that I need to start shopping for UK Persil soon... :)

Launderess a little update

Yesterday we also processed 30 or 40 patient gowns in the Tide Rose & Violet and sent them to one of the Healthsouth Hospitals we process for, About 30 min ago I got a call from the D.O.N. there, She said"what ever you did to the gowns yesterday keep it up" She tells me that for some reason the fragrance seems to have a calming effect on the patients. The comments range from Wow no hospital smell, Makes me think of mother, Seems that no one knows or can tell just what the fragrance is ..they just know its the gowns. and they like it. As for as cleaning goes I can tell no difference in this product as compared to most other Tide products. It does a pretty good job... As for price I have no idea how that will stack up yet. As this case is a sample from our PG Rep .. However in the past we have found that our price is around 35 to 40 % less than store prices.. There must be quite a large mark up on laundry products... I said something to our rep about the pricing a few years ago, and he told me that P & G has 7 different pricing tiers. Depending on what part of the country it is being sold and the volume it is purchased in.. He would not tell me any more about it as it seems it is somewhat of hush hush affair, I always knew P& G was kin to Daddy Warbucks!!

If any multinational manufacturers are reading this...

I beg of you to bring us a "Marseille soap"-fragranced laundry detergent.

(Pushing my luck now...)

And maybe a similar all-purpose household cleaner?

Our K-Mart in NJ is converting to their new format, but will remain K-Mart per the manager.

The merchandise seems to be a little bit better.

One can find Savon de Marseille soaps including laundry products based on that soap almost every where upscale laundry products are sold. Doux amoung other brands comes to mind.

As pour moi, just grate a bar of Savon de Marseille for use with unscented detergent (Wisk Power Scoop at the moment). This way one has the benefits of using a good washing powder, and the lovely scent of soap.

K-Sears

Didn't notice much difference from when our local K-Mart now that Sears has merged in. Nothing new except signs everywhere that one can use one's Sears card to pay, and the cashiers were pushing one to sign up for that high rate Sears Card.

Was hoping they would move some appliances into the store, but that seems not happening at the moment.

Must say the offerings in some departments looked less, than when the store was strictly K-Mart, especially cleaning supplies and stuff like that.

I used my sample of Rose Violet on sheets and they came out smelling quite devoon. Not overpowering at all, just nice.

As for that Lavender/Vanilla stuff...yucko. That fake vanilla smell is sickeningly sweet.

Launderess, thank you--approximately how much grated soap would I add to a full-size wash in a top loader?

I also stopped to smell the roses in my local market the other day and I must say I was tempted to try a bottle. But I too have way too much detergent. Couldn't stand that vanilla and lavender scent. Wherever did anyone get the idea that disgusting artificial vanilla scent would be appealing? I think we are all over vanilla-ed. Well, I will send for my sample of rose and violet Tide.......

It might be great for bed linens.

I noticed it for the first time yesterday at Walmart along with the hefty $16 price for the big jug. Didn't see any of the smaller bottles. I have a hard time spending more coin on Tide products when you can buy other brands at half the cost or less many times. Mom uses Sunlight powder here which I don't like, she won't buy Tide anything, I picked up a jug of Spin ultra last week at a liquidation place for $2 and it works fine. Never heard of Spin before, must be a store brand from somewhere in the US.

Target has some kind of sale going with all types of CHEER in 100 oz bottles for $5. This funny Tide stuff was on sale also, but I think it was 5.99. Might be nice for the top loaders.

The coupons that we get now in the paper are not worth cutting out: $1.00 off on TWO of whatever. What sugar honey iced tea.

Tide Pricing

Buying Tide at one's local supermarket is almost a fools game, as the full retail price is very dear. Thing to do is wait for sales, and or use coupons (not those fake ones on eBay).

Other than the above another way to save on Tide detergents is to purchase them at Sams, Costco, or any other of the big box stores. Local laundrymat buys huge boxes of Tide with Bleach (large to begin with, but marked "50% more...", for less than one pays for the 31 use box of the same at local shops (about $19.00).

My next trick is when am down at the shops, to always peep the detergent section for damaged boxes/bottles of Tide. Have found bottles with the pouring spout broken, and boxes partially ripped open or otherwise damaged. Just take said damaged item to store manager and inquire if one may have it at a reduced price. Some eye batting and rather innocent looks later, I've got my "prize". Discount usually ranges from 20% to 50% off.

When Tide is on sale, I ask for a rain check claiming the version I wish is not in stock. Later, when a version I like does come in,will use the rain check for the sale price. This is not working with Tide Simple Pleasures as it seems only K-Sears is carrying the detergent line. Now and then one spies the Downy FS versions, but nothing on the detergents.

Now I know what Tide "Roses and Violets" reminds me of, the Peach Thrill washing up liquid favoured by Mama. That, and a rose scented hand lotion that one hasn't seen for ages.

Really would love to try this detergent, and contacted Tide for a sample/coupon, which the customer service rep said she would send. Sometimes P&G will send a coupon good for "free" product (up to a certian cash value), in which case will spring for a bottle. Otherwise will have to wait until my stash is somewhat depleted.

Tide Coupon

Last night I found a Tide coupon I had cut out of the Target section in the Sunday paper a couple of weeks ago good for $1.00 off one bottle of the Simple Pleasures stuff so I am gonna run by this afternoon and grab a bottle of the roses stuff and see if it makes my sleep calmer, etc. Thanks for raising the topic while the stuff is on sale and before my coupon expires.
