Has anyone tried this yet? I'm curious, but wouldn't use it in my Bosch front-loader since it's not a low-sudsing HE formula. I do have two small countertop models in which I could test it though.

I have; it cleaned wonderfully but will oversuds if you use too much, like the regular Tides!! The Downy smell is somewhat nauseating after a while (especially after you've used regular Tide W/Bleach; I don't think this is available in an "Original Scent"), but in conjunction with dryer sheets it softens well.

Try it, although I really couldn't get used to the smell and went back to the traditional Gain/Sun/Tide w/Bleach...

Pulsator,

I don't have a scanner, so unfortunately can't provide pics.

I have an Avanti Eco Egg, and a Cyclone Washmate. You can buy them on the web. They are inexpensive, very small and convenient! The Washmate is very easy to use because there are no hook-ups involved. The Eco Egg is as close as you can get to a scaled-down version of a top-loader. It has a sort of pulse-itator, complete with lint filter in the post. Washing action is comparable to a full-size machine. Since my regular washer is a Bosch front-loader, I use these countertop models occasionally for bleaching, stain removal, or small loads. Also, if I get an urge to try a new detergent that is non-HE, I use them.

Stopped into K-Mart last night, and the shelves were nearly empty of Tide with a Touch of Downy liquid, all versions. Lots of TWTD in boxes (large and small), and those 100oz uber-sized liquid containers most versions of Tide come in.

P.S.

I'm thinking the new Tide with Downy uses cationic based fabric softeners verus the old oil/fat/was type used previously. Cationic softners are taking off, with Downy Advanced/Enhanced (whatever you call it), and many others.

Cationic surfactants have a softening effect, but not by coating fibers the way waxes and oils do. The presence of surfactants would explain why Downy Advanced foams across the washer window during spinning/draining.

Picked up two small boxes of it today while grocery shopping at my local Food Lion-Ocean Breeze-I forgot offhand what the other "aroma" was..Seeing it discussed on this site piqued my curiosity.

Launderess,

I'm thinking that the new Tide with a Touch of Downey must contain a similar formula as the old Bold detergent with fabric softener (I used this in college, and loved its clean mild scent). I do think there must be differences between softeners used in the wash cycle vs. the rinse cycle.

A few have mentioned the overpowering scent of this new version of Tide with softener. I've used Clean Breeze Downey before, which indeed is overpowering, even when used in small amounts. I have a coupon for the new Tide, which I'd like to try on the April Fresh variety - which hopefully won't burn the nose too much!

I got a sample of the April Fresh flavor in the mail today from Tide.com but haven't tried it yet. I used some Clean Breeze flavor at a clients house to wash some rugs on Thursday and was wretching from the smell - I can't stand that super-strong bubble-gum-of-the-month scent that so many new detergents have today. Maybe I'll try my sample on some rugs! I found some semi-vintage Fab with softener today at a sale to use in the garage, although the scent may have faded from age, I don't remember them being that strong. Solo was fairly strong and "sticky" smelling but fortunately it didn't work at all so wasn't around long!
