Yum-Yum!

Oh Kevin, that pie looks soooo good. I wish I could reach through the screen and get a piece.

I used to make cream pies often using the base recipe on the Argo corn starch box; did chocolate, coconut cream and butterscotch - all with meringue topping. Will definately have to try your recipe when I get a chance. Thanks for sharing it.

Kevin and Ralph, thanks for posting, this pie is similar to my late grandmothers. Ms. Nadine was probably of her generation. I really enjoy watching you cook and bake. Kevin as you know many folks can cook. Baking is another story. A skill you have certainly mastered. I plan to rewatch and give this one a try. Thanks again. arthur

Chocolate pie----hate to say-while the filling mixture was being cooked and the butter, vinilla being added-think I would have eaten the filling right out of that pot!!And besides pie filling bet that mixture would be delicious HOT on your favorite ice cream!!Besides vinilla I like a little cinnamin in my chocolate, too.Just a touch!

Kevin,

I prefer whipped cream, but that pie looks great!! I would still let you put it in my face, and ask for a spoon!! LOL

One of the reasons I don't like many of the cream pies at restaurants around here is that they put whipped cream on top instead of meringue. I've found that small locally owned places are more likely to use meringue. There's a place in Celina, OH that has fantastic pies; they have over a dozen flavors. I especially like their coconut cream and butterscoth flavors. All their cream pies have meringue.

Looks fabulous.... will make it the next time i need a nice

With 1.5 cups of sugar, is it very sweet?  Would it be possible to cut back on the sugar to make it more bittersweet without affecting the chemistry of the filling?

Regardless, it looks so good!

Thanks for posting it.

Hey Kevin...

I walked into the kitchen about 7:00 pm Saturday night and my wife was making your chocolate pie.  The mirangue was huge and very fluffy and the pie was absolutely delicious!!!!!  By 10:00 pm we had eaten about 1/2 of it and we finished it off for breakfast yesterday morning!  We will be keeping and using your chocolate pie recipe for years to come!  Thank you for sharing this with us!  Jim

Alan - feel free to cut back on the sugar if you don't want it as sweet. I think you could take it back to a cup without any worries.

Jim - I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! And good for you that you can enjoy pie for breakfast!

Here is Bill Cosby telling about when he fed his children Chocolate Cake for breakfast.
