well its my turn to get rid of 2 of my kids too. when one comes in one must leave. and i made a promise to myself that once i cant get the car in the garage its time to sell some off. so i have listed my 65 frigidaire set on ebay the item number is 3878947630 and if i wernt so blond i could figure out how to add a link to that page. so forgive me, but the kids really are in great shape and look forward to having a good home. i know someone here will take good care of them.

Chris just a few questions trying to figure this out. the washer and dryer are white not pink correct? The dryer used to be turquoise, what does acid wash do? Is this a high speed spin frigidaire or is it the 600rpm standard speed spin? do you hapen to have a close up picture of the washer control panel dials <br
thanks!

This is just like the set my mother-in-law had when my wife and I got married in 1967. In 1979 when she found out that the frigidaire division had been sold went out and bought the custom imperials for that year trading in the old set. She never liked the 1-18's as well as that pair. My wife, her brother and sister left them with the house when she died in 1999. Sure would have liked either set. She also had a Flair range and frigidaire refrigerator and dishwasher. My wife said all she can remember was that they had Frigidaire appliances. Had 2 1950's washers then the last two sets. She always like dumping the water from the first dryer they had.

speed and acid

the washer doed kick into a high speed its fun to listen to i always liked that part.. the acid wash on the enamel takes the surface off so that the paint will stick and stay on.. i wasnt sure how to do it until one of the body shops we use at work told me what to do and it works. the both are white i dont know why they look pink must be the dim might in the garage

I wondered about the blue button

ahhh....you painted the dryer. I was wondering where you got the turquoise door-opening button. Looks like you did an outstanding job. That is a beautiful set.

I had a similar model washer from 65 in coppertone for many years. The only difference I think is that mine had the wash/rinse temp combined on one dial, so there were three knobs instead of four. Mine was not a rapid dry model. After starting to spin on low speed, it would kick in to a high speed of, what was it? 710? Did a great job and as with all GM Frigidaires was great fun to watch.

The Fate

Oh well I cast a bid, not enough, plus too far for me to go and pick up, way too expensive to ship.

I did not understand my high bid on ebay was changed, however, I will not be doing that thing again. I did not trust it to begin with. Good luck to the seller and great luck to the buyer

I wonder who the buyer is? Hopefully he's in the club and the set won't be "lost forever".

Sorry that you didn't win 'em Steve. Same goes to Mark. Maybe next time...

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! It's about time that we come to realize what these machines are really worth! They're not making them anymore and in a few years, even sets like these, will be most difficult to find unless a collector is selling them. Hope the new buyer really enjoys those machines, and I hope the seller really enjoys spending the money! Mark

What are they worth??

The machines are, like anything else, worth whatever someone is willing to pay for them. Right now the 1950's and 1960's items are very hot. This club, along with the on line auctions have contributed to the great increase in prices. However that is not really a bad thing. Good buys are still out there for everyone. You just have to get out there and find them, and do the hard work of the restorations. Or pay the price for the ones that are restored. That is not unreasonable! People have been doing this with classic cars for decades.
I bought this 1965 Kenmore set at a church sale three years ago for $10.00 each. And they were only worth $10.00 in the condition they were in. They have been fully restored. What would they be worth today??

Paint jobs

One of my friends painted this set. He works for a new car dealer body shop, and does paint work on my cars also. It cost $50.00 to paint both of these. I had stripped the appliances down to pieces. Only the "shells" were taken to the body shop.My friend Tim did all the prep and paint work.

The Kenmore dryer is electric.

Rick

Congratulations !

My mind has been blown away! I can't imagine. I actually thought about bidding on this set. Thinking St Louis is only 8 hrs away. I could start a collection. Think I will have to stick with collecting the DVD's and dreaming. WOW! <p> So when is the P A R T Y Chris ?

I hear yah, jmirawn...

...I live in a 2nd and 3rd story townhouse, so the only thing I can collect is dust. Rick those Kenmore's are beautiful!!! Were they originally turquoise?

When I look at the new appliances, I can't help but wonder out loud -- will pics of them be posted somewhere 30,40,50 years from now?

Rick, about that dryer...interesting door...I believe my Mom's LK was from that era, but had a full width door. (Or is my memory failing me in my old age? :)

Kenmore models

Thanks, The Kenmores are the original color, not original paint however. These are 800 models. I think that is one step below the "Lady" series. The "Ladies" had the full width door. The control panels on KM are always very nice. Here are close ups.

Washer panel

65 KM. The chrome trim is flawless on these. These machines were beat up and scratched, but not rusted. I was glad for that. All I did was clean and polish the control panels and touch up the black trim on the washer panel.

Kenmore models color!

Rick,
I think this is a real cool looking set. I remember looking at these in sears when I was a young kid. I wish they made the color today. Best of luck with them.
