Hello there, I was curious about a recent auction that you won.

I noticed you recently won a mid 70s GE Toast-R-Oven in the box, and paid over $270 for it. Currently, there is one on Ebay for even more.

We had a discussion going on the last few weeks on a vintage/collectible website. Quite a few of us collect toasters and appliances, and were absolutely floored by what your auction and the current one are priced at. We own some extremely rare toasters and other appliances and nothing we own has come near this price. In fact, we have seen a number of your toasters at antique stores both in and out of the original box, rarely over $20. We are trying to get insight as to why these items are so expensive. It does not seem to align with values anywhere for antique appliances, especially in the 70s where quality was definitely diminishing. Can you shed some light on why these went for so much money?

For a toaster oven. Well, that's the wonderful thing about ebay. Lots of suckers out there with more money than common sense.

I got the one I'm putting on ebay for about 25 bucks, maybe? And the older one that replaced it was a whopping 5 bucks at the Salvation Army.

Not that I expect to get rich; the one I'm selling isn't MIB. Hmmm. Maybe I could say that Don Johnson made Pop Tarts in it...

I am astonished that there are so many people out there willing to spend so much money on the vintage GE Toast-R-Oven. I was willing to spend so much money on it because it is a gift for my father....we had two of these toasters several years ago and my father never liked any other toaster. My father rarely asks for anything so when he mentioned that he wished he could find the old toaster I set out to find it and was willing to spend the money to get it. Honestly I can not imagine why everyone else places such a high value on it. Sorry that I can not give you any more insite

It's hard to say whether he's a shill, you have to remember that there are an awful lot of people out there with enormous amounts of money to which $400 is insignificant pocket change. Along with lots of people without enormous amounts of money that will spend that much on a new "pro" name toaster.

I was just looking through some old magazines, and see a GE add from Dec. 61, that has the "new" toaster oven like we see in this topic. I thought we bought ours in the 64-65 range but was not sure.. So I guess they came out in 61. The same add has our old blender and mom's "portable" hair dryer in it too.
