Just sad, That WCI tried to fool buyers that these were still quality GM-FD appliances.

 

Whirlpool did a much better job transforming Maytags laundry line when they bought MT, they improved the styling and the quality, performance and reliability and the Maytag name still means something to millions of consumers all over the US.

When my mom died in 1984, the first thing I did (literally, on the way home from her funeral) was stop at the local Frigidaire/Whirlpool/KitchenAid dealer to buy a KitchenAid dishwasher and a Frigidaire laundry pair. All of our appliances were Kenmore and I'd dreamed of the day I could finally get a Frigidaire washer and dryer.

I hadn't paid much attention to Frigidaire for a few years and was horrified to find that WCI had turned them into the lowest common denominator machines imaginable.

At the dealer's strong recommendation--a friend I'd grown up with--I bought a Whirlpool pair, instead. The washer was large capacity and had the cool winged Surgilator...but it was still the same belt drive machine I'd lived with since 1960 (Kenmore Model 80) and was so eager to get away from.

Sigh.

Wound up buying a Frigidaire top-loader when I moved in '86. The best thing about it was the circle-of-spray fill feature. Horrible turnover; worthless lint filtering; worst-in-class spin speed. It was soon replaced with a Frigidaire-branded WCI front-loader--my very first.

Hi John ~

Scratching my head in puzzlement because the BOL model WH washes with a faster stroke --210 vs 186--and spins over 100 miles an hour faster ;'D --620 vs 515--than the three higher up models. Any idea what's goin' on in the cheap speedy little guy, but he's the one I'd want to see in motion !?--

Ironic that the BOL would be the model that might actually work.

Would these have been 1980 models since they still had the GM exterior look but the WCI internal design?
