WOW Robert, thank you for making this document avaialable (and thanks to the kind member who volunteered this!!). I have always been fascinated by this machine - I have had no less than three brushes with being able to acquire one but didn't realize that this would be a rare machine at the time (darned hindsight...)

The pump diagrams in particular are going to be a great help in my eventual restoration of the 49 Jet-Tower that I have sitting in the garage in Ogden.

My pleasure Paul, glad you got a copy now. That manual came out of Greg's (gansky1) collection, it's the first Youngstown service manual I've seen. It can be downloaded here.

Quite an interesting machine that 30" wide Youngstown, I know Jeff L. has one in Maryland and dishwashercrazy Mike has one in IL.

The manual can now be safely added to the 'collection that hubby CAN'T complain about' LOL Well, until I get my paws on an actual YK like this one...

Very Cool Owners Book on Kenmore Central Vacums

Thanks for supplying this cool information on the fabled Central Wet Vacs, these were built by Whirlpool and sold under the WP and KM names. Just think not only could vacuum all day and never smell a thing from a smelly vacuum but you could go indifferently without EVER having to empty or change bags or dispose of any type of dirt again.

I didn't actually read that manual John, just scanned it. Didn't you have to empty the bucket of dirt at the Central Vacuum Unit???

I didn't download it either

but  I know they made central vacs in the 50's and 60's that used water flushing and a floor drain to get rid of the dirt, no nasty bags. We had a broken one like that in a 1960 house we moved into in 73, we never fixed it, mom had a vacuum and 7 kids to do various chores and had never heard of a central vac system. It sat un-repaired and we moved out in 7 years.

Wet & Dry Central Vacs

The real beauty of these units is that they filled with 3 gallons of cold water each time you turned on the system to start cleaning and when you shut it off all the dirt along with the water that was filtering the dirt out of the air stream goes down the drain. And just like other portable Vacs that used water to filter the dirt these CVs did not trap all dust or odors so the C Wet Vac is vented outside so NOTHING stays inside your clean house.

John you are so right

When I was growing up in the 60-70's my mother had a central vac installed .. OMG is the best thing since cake mix .. since I had to vacuum. I could tell when she was vacuuming when I got anywhere near the house .. ours did not have a muffler on it and the whine of it was unbelievable, hell all the neighbors knew she was vacuuming an not me thanks for the laugh .. but is was the best vacuum, and yes we had to empty a 2 bushel container of crap every once in a while

Central Vac Noise

Philippe funny you mentioned the noise these CVs can make, when I installed my first one over 30 years ago I finished sometime after midnight and naturally I was running around the house vacuuming everything in sight. After an hour or so I decided to go into the back yard to see what it sounded like and was surprised that it was echoing off the house behind ours, LOL. Once I installed the proper muffling exhaust hood the sound is all but eliminated. After we remolded the house it now comes right out of the front of the house and as you get close you can hear it but it is not at all bothersome.
