The console styles on today's POD I don't remember. Were they a short-lived style? I find them rather attractive, but they don't look very substantial. How long did this style last? Thanks! Greg

they where canadian model when i was a cild my mother went to the sears counter to get her local sears catalogue and i was with her so i saw this particular model

I remember seeing machines like that when I used to go through the Kenmore section of the Canadian Sears catalogue. Brings back memories.

The date on the page is January of 1976 which matches what Gordon said in yesterday's POD thread. Scroll down a bit and you'll see it.
These first Canadian versions are pretty with the slanting sides, I agree.

Yes these are Canadian models and many were sold in the 70's.
The interesting point with these Canadian models - these models were mainly had the Roto-swirl and straight vane agitators. There features were basic and great work horse. They were simple to use
The Dual Action Agitator was introduced in Canada at this time and they had a different type of control panel (looks more high end and extra programs). The higher end models also had the second rinse features too.
Generally, there were two design series (the POD design with the plastic modular control panel and basic features) and (the higher end models with dual action agitator, extra programs, fancier control panel, etc). Both types were great washers...
I miss the 70's and 80's Belt Drive Kenmores...such great machines!!

I think the fake woodgrain consoles on these Kenmores is extremely ugly.
I've always thought this line was the nadir of Kenmore styling. Fake and icky.

They kind of remind me of the Centennal Maytag shredpools of today.
I didn't like the plastic control panels either-they look rather tacky and cheap.
I guess I was wrong about the dual action agitator...I don't recall seeing a dual action agitator on these then (probably came out later in the 70's to help with sales)....mind you I was more interested in the Roto-Swirl.....
The plastic panels were cheap to make. The timer, water level and water temperature can be easily access by two screws on top. The whole piece comes out nicely for repairs.
They were very popular machines.

Sears in Canada
If I remember correctly... were they not called "Simpson Sears" back in the 60's ??? I remember visiting Toronto when I was 12 - 13 years old.

In Canada, Simpson's and Sears were 2 department chains that were consolidated through the 60s and 70s. Then in the 80s, Simpsons hooked up with The Bay (I'm sure many are familiar with the Hudson's Bay Company). This partnership then sold Beaumark appliances, which were made by GE. Simpson's no longer exists today.
