hello all,
this motor/gearcase combo is the strangest thing I've come across in a long time. Has it ever been built? Has anyone seen it in action?
*curious*

Yes that is one of three designs that GM came up with for the Unimatic. The unit that was actually produced was similar but the pump was on the bottom, motor in the middle and transmission at the top.

Pump on the bottom = good.

It's my biggest issue with the GE Filter Flo. The pump is on top of the clutch and motor. If the pump leaks, it soaks the clutch and motor.

Smart move Frigidaire, putting the pump on the bottom!

PUMP ON THE BOTTOM OF THE MOTOR

Frigidares bottom mounted washer pumps [Franklin designed washers] had tremendous problems with air-locking which is way they moved the pump to the top of the motor. Then they finally installed an electric drain pump which allowed a neutral drain which solved a whole host of problems.
