Oh my, that POD brought back memories!  The dishwasher I grew up with was a re-badged Westinghouse (an Eaton Viking) perhaps a few years newer than the model in the POD.  I remember the Hot Water Booster clearly and how the wash impeller continued to run during the dry cycle.  I also remember how disappointed my mother was when we replaced that dishwasher in 1978 and the GE Potscrubber we got didn't have fan-forced drying!   Well, there may just be a similar Westinghouse clone making its way into the collection - IF all goes well....

I remember our going to Davison's in Atlanta, a division of Macy's, to look at this machine. Only the TOL had the backsplash and the switch to select the guaranteed 140 degree wash. In tests of the built-in, the wash time was increased to between 45 minutes to close to an hour to heat the single wash to 140F. That would be a long increase to the cycle time to have a portable blocking access to the sink. I don't know if that long a wash period really removed soil or if it damaged everything by having food particles bombarding the glass and dish ware for that long since there was no real pre rinse due to the lack of a timer controlled detergent dispenser. As soon as my parents found out that it did not have a prewash before the main wash, we were out of there. All of their friends who had dishwashers told them that a pre rinse was a non-negotiable must-have feature on a new dishwasher.

Funny, but I remember that the lack of pre-rinse was something my late mother complained about on this type of machine...  I cleverly got around it by runinng the machine on the 'rinse and hold' cycle (it simply filled, rinsed, then drained) BEFORE the normal cycle and that got around most issues.  I also remember that pause in the cycle as the Hot Water booster kicked in, but it did a pretty good job as I recall!
