Unpacked....

Its a KM200 from the mid 90s(The extended guarantee offer leaflet expired Dec 96). Its still very much a British built proper Chef unlike the Italian/Chinese current versions............

unbelievable!

Seamus! What have you done?!

I remember repairing those a hundredwise, thus I DO remember the price for refurbished units with a shortened guarantee.

Goodness, what a bargain! Congrats ;-)

NICE!

Well done!

What a great find and for GBP20! You certainly can't beat that for value or quality for the money espectially when I paid AUD$350 for my KM200 in 1997.

jealous....

Kenwood being rare on this side of the pond, I paid around $120 for mine which is the identical model to yours, branded Rival here, about a year ago on ebay. And mine though never used, wasnt NIB, grrr... lol.. Best mixer I ever owned though, left my old Kitchenaid in the dust. You got an awesome deal.

Luck :)

Pete
Yes they were :) this replaces a 901A as our daily driver. Thats going to a workmate of Matts who regually gives him a lift but wont take any cash off him...

Kevin
Any chance of a pic as Im curious to see the alternate branding. I know the newer models are marketed as Delonghi over there.

Just goes to show there is decent stuff to be found amongst the crap - I guess its a case of right place, right time lol.....

I LOVE old Kenwoods

I have a Kenwood Major, that was rebranded as Rival. I love it. (It's a KM400? with a 7 litre bowl).

It was British built with a motor that was either UK or Japan made, I can't remember.

Jeez I've had it for 20 years now. It works very well.

Rival branded version

As you can see mine is identical, except it has a gray lever for the lift release, instead of a white button, and says Rival under the knob where your's says Kenwood. The cream colored band below the top is actually where the plastic in that section has yellowed, originally it was the same shade as the rest of the mixer. (Please note, it is far cleaner in person than it appears in the picture. Not sure why it looks dirty). When I got mine it had never been used, the beaters were all still in their plastic bags, as was the book. In the yellowed area you can faintly make out the word Rival and some other writing, where the clear vinyl display sticker had never been removed either until I received it. Someone had bought it to place on their counter just for decoration, and after a few years, replaced it with a Kitchenaid, still just for decoration. Some people I just don't understand..

Bowl

Just noticed, mine also has the squared off bowl with a clear plastic splash guard that fits it, (I never use the splash guard), while yours has the classic round bowl. From what I understand they are totally interchangable though.

I think......

Hey Kevin

I think yours is based on the following model (KM220) . Apart from the differences you noted yours has the newer speed control with the "Pulse" setting. This is ideal for short bursts at full speed if using the liquidiser attachment etc.

Talking of the liquidiser do you have any attachments for it?.

Seamus

Now modified....

Hey Guys

Decided to keep the Kenlyte(Plastic) bowl as new and use the Stainless bowl from the A901 it replaced :).

Hunter....

At that time Kenwood were still making their own motors at their Havant factory as far as Im aware. Is your Major Stainless or White? It wasnt based on a KM400 as that was made up until 5 odd years ago. Think the White version of yours was probably the KM600?

Seamus

Hmm...

Hey Kevin
Im sure I have a spare Liquidiser somewhere- its the one attachment every Chef owner NEEDS!.
Drop me a message and we can probably do a deal ;).
Seamus

Seamus

As much as I would like the liquidizer, (and would probably die from excitement if the money fairy dropped enough funds for every attachment ever offered at my door, lol), I'm wondering what shipping from the UK would be like? I've never had anything shipped so far before, so really have no idea what the cost might be to do so. By the way, thank you very much for your generous offer to assist me in obtaining the liquidizer.

Nice find Seamus

I am green :)

I bought a brand new one from Debenhams 3 years ago and after discounts from using their card etc it was £165.

You did good.

Austin

Greenness......

Hey Austin
Im a little green of your Miele so guess we are about equal :)
On the subject of that have you ever considered spuring it off your cooker circuit if you have one?- Id consider that if it was an option :)
Seamus

Spur off cooker ring.

Hello Seamus

Ok I won't shout about being jealous :)

The washer is too far from the cooker circuit but above it is the shower box as our bathroom is on the ground floor. I could wire the Miele into that I suppose and only use it when the shower is not on but I don't have the need all it would do is make the machine 2x faster doing the wash its quick now I have extended all the wash parameters to make it do the wash cycle longer. The only other thing that I have thought about is if the heater blows the washer has a spare built in all I have to do is plug the other in and remove the duff ones plug :)

Austin

True...

Hey Austin

Thats a good point- presume the 13A conversion is literally unpluging one heater then?.

One thing I find odd is why its so much deeper than my W5740 and yet is rated as less capacity........

Love the fact they are so adjustable though!

Seamus

Depth

Hi Seamus

Well I can tell you there is an awful big gap between the drum and the back of the cabinet, I can only assume its because the cabinet is made to accomodate all size drums there is about 6 inches of space. All the electronics are at the top too all down the side on the right and thats where there is a small plug removed that if you trace the wires goes back to the heater. So simple and yet so brilliant it washes everything really well in fact the only thing I can think of thats a downside is dog hair does not go through the Honeycomb holes as easy :)
