Unpacked....

Its a KM200 from the mid 90s(The extended guarantee offer leaflet expired Dec 96). Its still very much a British built proper Chef unlike the Italian/Chinese current versions............

unbelievable!

Seamus! What have you done?!

I remember repairing those a hundredwise, thus I DO remember the price for refurbished units with a shortened guarantee.

Goodness, what a bargain! Congrats ;-)

NICE!

Well done!

What a great find and for GBP20! You certainly can't beat that for value or quality for the money espectially when I paid AUD$350 for my KM200 in 1997.

jealous....

Kenwood being rare on this side of the pond, I paid around $120 for mine which is the identical model to yours, branded Rival here, about a year ago on ebay. And mine though never used, wasnt NIB, grrr... lol.. Best mixer I ever owned though, left my old Kitchenaid in the dust. You got an awesome deal.

Luck :)

Pete
Yes they were :) this replaces a 901A as our daily driver. Thats going to a workmate of Matts who regually gives him a lift but wont take any cash off him...

Kevin
Any chance of a pic as Im curious to see the alternate branding. I know the newer models are marketed as Delonghi over there.

Just goes to show there is decent stuff to be found amongst the crap - I guess its a case of right place, right time lol.....

I LOVE old Kenwoods

I have a Kenwood Major, that was rebranded as Rival. I love it. (It's a KM400? with a 7 litre bowl).

It was British built with a motor that was either UK or Japan made, I can't remember.

Jeez I've had it for 20 years now. It works very well.

Rival branded version

As you can see mine is identical, except it has a gray lever for the lift release, instead of a white button, and says Rival under the knob where your's says Kenwood. The cream colored band below the top is actually where the plastic in that section has yellowed, originally it was the same shade as the rest of the mixer. (Please note, it is far cleaner in person than it appears in the picture. Not sure why it looks dirty). When I got mine it had never been used, the beaters were all still in their plastic bags, as was the book. In the yellowed area you can faintly make out the word Rival and some other writing, where the clear vinyl display sticker had never been removed either until I received it. Someone had bought it to place on their counter just for decoration, and after a few years, replaced it with a Kitchenaid, still just for decoration. Some people I just don't understand..

Bowl

Just noticed, mine also has the squared off bowl with a clear plastic splash guard that fits it, (I never use the splash guard), while yours has the classic round bowl. From what I understand they are totally interchangable though.

I think......

Hey Kevin

I think yours is based on the following model (KM220) . Apart from the differences you noted yours has the newer speed control with the "Pulse" setting. This is ideal for short bursts at full speed if using the liquidiser attachment etc.

Talking of the liquidiser do you have any attachments for it?.

Now modified....

Hey Guys

Decided to keep the Kenlyte(Plastic) bowl as new and use the Stainless bowl from the A901 it replaced :).

Hunter....

At that time Kenwood were still making their own motors at their Havant factory as far as Im aware. Is your Major Stainless or White? It wasnt based on a KM400 as that was made up until 5 odd years ago. Think the White version of yours was probably the KM600?
