I found a similar washer and dryer recently. Last July, there was a house for sale in my town - rather cool. A late 60's ranch, owned by an elderly widow who had gone into a nursing home. I asked the realtor if the owner or conservator would want to sell the pair. She promised to check, but of course I never heard from her and she never returned my calls. Realtors in my town are really rather full of themselves...
Anyway the house was on the market for a while and I kept checking the local property transfers and driving by. But still empty.
Two weeks ago I drove by and I could see on the side screened porch that washer and dryer. So I left a note taped to the mailbox for the new owner. And tonight I picked up a message that he would sell me the pair for $100. A bit steep considering the age, but I am not going to quibble. I also need to convince him to hold them until I can find a way to transport them.
Anyway, the washer I found has the white straight vane activator, and I will need to find a replacement minibasket since I snooped as much as possible when I was in the house and couldn't find one. I figure it's a no lose proposition - it's in great cosmetic shape having been on the main level instead of the damp basement. So I will test it out when I get it home and even if it needs, I suspect there is no shortage of GE parts. I am guessing it is a very late 70's model - but I don't recall when GE moved from the white straight vane to the sweeping curved vane activators.
Not sure I need the dryer, though.
