Looks like an LAT9804.

LAT9824 was TOL for the mechanical timer line models, providing a 4 speed combo.

LAT9900 was TOL using a touch pad.

Thats not TOL for its time. That one is near TL. 9904 was TOL. Actually there was a model (or 2) in the middle .

There were 3 TOL touch pad models:

First Gen: A9900 (Black face console/touch pad, small tub opening and tub cover going back to 1956. Standard water valve).

Second Gen: LAT9900 (Black face console/touch pad, larger tub opening, updated tub cover, and sophisticated water valve).

Third Gen: LAT9904 (White face console/touch pad with continued updates as above).

The TOL touch pad washer for this generation was the LAT9900, not the LAT9904 that came later.

You are correct that this machine appears to be a 9804. However 9904 was TOL at this time. 9900 went away after 93’. I had 2 sets of 9904’s. Ironically they came out in 94’.

30 lashes with a 1/4" belt doesn't seem to fit the bill here.

60 lashes with a 2-11125 1/2" belt should help you remember

Dan, your interests on alternate uses for washer belts intrigues me!

 

I like that this model offers an extra rinse, but I'm not a fan of orbital or direct drive machines.

Well, the old pitman slips right into place of the orbital on these machines.

I have a low mileage A9900/DG9900 set acquired from the original owners that got the white glove treatment (they never had kids), most importantly, with the touch pads. I rebuilt the washer using a pitman transmission and tub from a Series 02 806 washer that got manhandled to the curb by an idiot craigslist poster (at least it was free). It's nice to have some flexibility in agitation times for both the wash and deep rinse cycles, but spin spray rinses are cold water only. On mechanical timers, a simple jumper wire can fix that issue but it's not so easily accomplished with these. I guess I could swap the lines to the water valve and get hot spray rinses for all cycles, lol.

Come to think of it, I haven't used either machine in almost 4 years since I rebuilt them both. It has been over 5 years since I fired up the 906's and about 10 years for the A712. Time passes much too quickly.

Well, what I remember, the LAT9824 was the TOL mechanical model all the way through this series.  But I think it was only offered through Maytag Home Appliance Stores.  The original model washer (both control panel colors) was the TOL at places such as Monkey Wards, Circuit City, and Best Buy).  The energy saver button essentially gave you 5 different wash water temps and 3 rinse water temps. I only got to use my mom's washer a couple of times.  I got my LDE9824 December 1994 and my mom got her Maytags (that replaced the Filter Flo set) in 1995.  They were the TOL at Circuit City where by bought them.  By this time, I was no longer able to drive out of town and so didn't see them in Houston very often.  Her dryer was essentially like mine, but didn't have the air fluff heat button.  Air only was accomplished with the extended press care feature.   When parents were preparing to sell the house, they sold some things at an "estate sale", including the Maytag pair.  I remember my dad telling me the guy who bought them were thrilled to get them, especially it being a gas dryer.  The buyer remarked they were top of the line.
