When I used to spend time up in Cherry Log we had quite a group of "out" local citizens. It was fun to go into Blue Ridge and camp it up for lunch at the Tea Room. I loved the hats.

Most of the mountain folks I know still stick to the old idea that politics is a personal thing and they NEVER discuss who they vote for or their political views----and that would include putting out signs. It is indeed a time warp!(When I lived in Tallulah Falls it was a step back in time for sure!)
I don't think so many old southern families are still angry over the war as they are just proud of the service their ancestors gave to the Confederate Army. And why not? Many of them lost their lives over their beliefs----something most Americans wouldn't even think of now especially if it involved a detour from the mall.

It has been an interesting observation here in Roanoke, that in the past week there has been a sudden proliferation of signs that read: "Another FAMILY that supports McCain".
Hmmmmmmmm. Wonder who is behind those-----------.

I expect things will get downright nasty before its all over, but hey, its America and at least for the moment, we have the right to dissagree with each other.

> Everyone has a right to his or her opinion but should respect others rights to dissagree. Simple now, isn't it.
IMO it is time to chill. Sheeeeesh! <

Sorry. I promise to ignore Mark's trolls from now on. Including this thread.

Well tangentially related since Mark pointed out Detroit is the top economically depressed cities, it's been reported that McCain is pulling out of Michigan. Pulling all ads, mailings, and canceling appearances. At this point I'm doing the happy dance, the ads were sooo bad and untruthful I'll be glad not to be inundated with them even to the small extent I was. Tivos are a godsend.

I used to like McCain, back in 2000 I wanted him to win the R nomination. Now, I think he's a toad.

There are many people who wish the old "maverick" McCain were still around, but alas he has been beaten into submission by the entrenched neocons----or whats left of 'em. Interesting to hear them scream like demons at an exorcism----and I'd imagine the screams will become louder and more vile as we approach election day.

It will be interesting to see how Americans interpret McCain abandoning his efforts to win over the state of Michigan.
I would think this is a pretty clear signal to America's blue-collar workers (even the most rigid-minded "bubbas") about who has (or at least appears to have) their real interests at heart especially after having been hoodwinked by the Bush administration.
Like it or not clearly Obama now has the wind on his back, and if tonight's debate is any kind of success at all he'll never have to look back. Hopefully his demons will not create the scorched-earth that Bush has created.

FACT Number of troops dead making the US less secure because of our Republican president sent then to THE WRONG COUNTRY 4000 +

FACT Condition of the US economy after almost 7.5 years of Republican leadership CRAP !!!

FACT Percentage of persons at the gun range that I belong to who constantly joke about KILLIN FAGS and ALSO happen to have REPUBLICAN bumper stickers 100%

So my conclusion based on the FACTS as I know them ... and this is America and we are all allowed our point of view no matter how twisted it may be ...

The Democratic party may attract more then its share of slackers BUT the REPUBLICAN party is the hands down choice of HATERS personally Ill take the slackers any day

I found another list where Pittsburgh was #5 of the nation's poorest cities and would have rated higher (poorer) if the city did not have "pockets of wealth" (called Squirrel Hill and Shadyside) in the city limits I will have to find that list.
