Top Load Design to Prevent Pump Clog or Damage?

Although my Maytag mvwp575gw seems to have a design that traps large objects like a coin that may get under the agitator from reaching the drain pump, it has large holes on the top of the agitator and slots under the agitator that would allow smaller items like chains, bobby pins, jewelry, etc. through. Clogs or damage to the drain pump can result. Does any top loader (the Speed Queen TC5, in particular) have a design that minimizes this risk? Also, does the Maytag warranty cover this issue? Just curious. This is a common issue for many washers.

some machines...FL as well as TL have some sort of 'trap' before the pump...some don't!...

all the more reason to double check pockets and such before tossing in the machine...

but still, a simple button could pop off during washing and make its way down to the pump.....some pump setups will accommodate small items, and pass them on through right down the drain...

if you have ever cleaned out a dryer....enough can be found in there to create its own junk drawer!

There is a “screen” kind of thing pre pump. Check your pockets is the best insurance

This is the tub outlet / pump protector on a VMW I repaired (new transmission, new pump, new capacitor) a few months ago.

1 = outlet cover

2 = looking into the pump from the tub outlet

3 = outlet cover installed

4 = beneath the installed outlet cover

Year+ ago the pump got jammed by a small bootie-type sock that went over(load) the basket, presumably during the initial "load-balancing spin" at the start of a cycle.  This protector/filter did not prevent the sock from passing into the pump.
