Transporting GE Filter Flo Washers

Hi Everybody,I am lotso'suds (real name is David). I am a new member. I have been checking out the site for about a year now, poppin wood over some of your pictures of your recent finds. I also have a love for the old stuff, and have just found my first washer for The start of my collection. It's a mid eighties GE Filter Flo with a Mini Basket. I will Pick it up this Saturday, and will have all the particulars on it soon after, as well as a pic of it. I will be pickin everyone brain to locate a fabric softner dispenser for it, after I find out the year and model. I will keep you all informed. I can hardly wait to make my first wash in with you all.

the fabric softener dispenser is available at repairclinic.com item number 281015, i just bought a 1980s ge filter flo to start my collection too! bought mine 2 months ago and absolutely LOVE it!

The fabric softener dispenser isn't available as a stock item at repair clinic. When I was searching for mine, i couldn't find one to save my life. I was sent one by Kenny on this forum a while back and ironically found one in a thrift shop a few days later. I've got an extra if you're interested. Email me off list.

Transporting GE Filter Flo washers

Can anyone give me info on transporting GE's. I need to fit it in my partners GMC Yukon. However it has to go on it's side. Anyone know? Give me a holler back please.

I try to avoid transporting any kind of a washer on it's side or back, David. A good, vintage Filter-Flo has a pretty intricate suspension system that you could knock out of alignment if you're not careful.
It may run the cost of acquistion up a bit, but it's worth renting a larger truck or a trailer if you have to.
I've had to transport a dryer on it's back and I was lucky - but there too, you could knock the drum out of it's mounting.

The FF uses a cable suspension system. I am with urquoisedude's advice. Rent a trailer, save a suspension.

While the cable suspension is definitely a concern, I'd be more worried about tearing up the rubber boot on the bottom of the tub! Carry it upright for sure.

Moving GE washer

It will not A GE washer to move it on its side front or back I have moved hunderds of GE washers this way and never damaged one just pad the finish.

Moving a GE washer...

I was able to move my old filter-flo on it's side. It actually fit inside a Ford Explorer on its side along with the dryer. Just the washer would definitely fit. There was no damage to the suspension or boot and you can still buy a boot just in case. There are still plenty of parts out there for these washers. Enjoy!

How far are you travelling with it on it's side?

I would be concerned with the weight. The cement block inside it makes the GE FF quite heavy.

I have picked up too many to count washers and dryers in my Jeep Cherokee, laid on sides front but mostly the back, it was just easier to tilt against vehicle and then lift from bottom and slide in...and never had an issue with anything going wrong....just some water may spill out...keep a few towels nearby and lay it on an old blanket...and keep in mind that it may slide so you may want to "block" it...the only machine i was told to keep upright was my neptune...and that advise came from a maytag repairman...happy motoring
