I know it's been mentioned about transporting automatics, but is there anything to keep in mind with a Maytag round tub wringer washer? I will be transporting it on its side so I was curious about oil leakage and the such. I may have found a good deal on the washer and tubs so wish me luck!

DO NOT TRANSPORT IT ON ITS SIDE

If you do oil will leak out of the transmison...I had a round tub Maytag at one time and made that mistake bringing it home and it leaked oil all over the back of my station wagon. PAT COFFEY

thermal expansion hole

My maytag wringer has a clearly visible weep hole or possibly thermal expansion hole on the top of the gear box . You can take off the roller water remover though just by lifting it straight up. I would not recommend turning the machine sideways. Keep it upright.

I would not transport laying down. I tried this once, and I too had all the oil leak out from the machine. Once the oil is out, I am not sure if there is any way to replace it, and without oil, well we all know what can happen. Now I know to remove the wringer, and transport any wringer washer with it sitting straight up, so no oil can leak out.

Correction...

I WOULD have transported it on it's side if I could, but I am now going to transport it upright. It will fit in the minivan with the wringer head removed. I assume that it lifts off.

Thanks for all the help!

Item Obtained

Just picked up the machine, this will be my 1st wringer machine. The machine needs a drain hose, but the motor and transmission are smooth and quiet. I couldn't get the agitator off, buy hopefully all is well. Black bakelite agitator and overall in decent shape. I'm excited!

Maytag round tub wringer washer

Hey there, Tim...glad to hear you got a Maytag wringer (so now you're a member of the Maytag wringer washer "sub-club". I sure love my square tub E2LP - does such a great job. I'm sure you'll love the N2L as much!

Bonus that you got the rinse tubs as well....wish I had room for some, but alas, living in an apartment has its space limitations.

Maytag N2L

Hey Brad good to hear from you again! Yes I do like this machine quite a bit so far. It's not a perfect machine, and nowhere near as nice as yours, but it works great. I need a drain hose and a belt really, but both still are holding up. It has been used, but indoors and kept up well. The rollers are in great shape on it too as they were (according to the owner) always stored with the release off. I also have a galvanized (1) stand up rinse tub on casters that came with it. Even my quirky roomie likes it, but I have tried to show him the proper way to use the wringer. My great grandmother had this same machine when I was growing up and I was always fascinated by it, there was always a ot of caution towards the wringer and I was never allowed to use the machine by myself under her watch. It brings back a lot of memories for me, the smell of bleach wafting through the house on wash day and the rows of clothes being hung up out behind the house afterwards. I would get to take the clothes that had been rung and put them in the rinse tubs out back. It's very hard to find anything older in good shape here, I'm starting to think people in these parts take care of nothing. If it's been around for 60 years, then it's done just that; been around for 60 years on its own accord. I think I lucked out on this one, a few scratches but in great shape. I think I'll get some video and pics and make a post separate just for it.

Transporting wringer washer

I'm getting another wringer washer ! But the only way I can get it home is in my car and on it's side. I'm definitely getting a couple of tarps I had to do it on my original wringer. What a mess. Anyway I read I should've taken the top off and do something else but unfortunately I didn't write that part down. Can I just make sure the washer is proped up as high as I can get it and make sure it doesn't move ?
