OOOOH IT'S GETTING CLOSER AND I CAN'T WAIT.

Is anyone considering a road trip to Mexico while there? Is it politically safe yada yada yada to do do?

I'm goin' to Arizona! Who else is too? What's a girl to wear at that time of year? I get to see some old freinds and torture new ones YAY!

Nogales isn't too far of a drive if you want to hit Mexico. Border towns aren't exactly the best way to get a feel for the country, but it may be all most people will be able to manage due to scheduling. Still beats the zoo that is Tijuana. I'm sure your hosts in Tucson will be able to provide some guidance. Also some AZ historical points of interest on the way south. My understanding is that you don't need a passport or tourist card if you are just going in for the day. But the rules have just recently changed and it would probably be a good idea to bring a passport if you have one.

Count us in!

Michael(Badata) and I will be there. We spent the extra $$$ and got non-stop flights from O'hare to Tucson.
I'm not sure of the exact time of arrival, but I know we will be in Tucson early afternoon Thursday 3/22.
I'm hoping for warm, so the hotel's pool won't go to waste!
I also went a little crazy and requested a Convertible(Mustang, not Hoover) for a rental car.
This will be my first trip to Arizona, I am very much looking forward to it, seeing some old friends and meeting new ones.
Its going to be a blast!

I'M THERE!

I had the best time of my life at the Tucson wash-in last year, so I will definitely NOT be missing this one for the world! Already less than 2 months away...my excitement is beginning, and I already know it's going to be an absolute BLAST! One splendid combination of great food, great people, and great machines. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again (either from the Omaha Convention or Tucson '06) as well as meeting you faces (such as you, Jeff, and GadgetGary!)!

Ralph, it was great meeting you last year, I'm sorry you can't make it this time around. We'll do a load in your honor!

Toggle, it will be fun seeing you again. Just like last year, we'll probably end up talking about and making fun of the "banterers du jour" on the Super forum. That is always fun, LOL. ;-)

As for the road trip to Mexico, that sounds like an idea! Especially since the Hoover single tubs are still being made and sold there!!! Someone had better pack a .44 Magnum, though, in case of any "washer bandits."

As i understand it, do you have to have a passport to enter mexico???? I wouldn't mind going (Richie (ie" Irishwashguy) is my shoffuer while there) but unsure if one needs a passport, etc.. Please advise..

Austin...

It is illegal to bring firearms or ammunition into Mexico. I've heard of someone being jailed for a single cartridge (without a corresponding weapon) being discovered in their car. Perhaps an apocryphal story, but it against Mexican law none the less.

No guns in Mexico? Wow, I never knew that. Sort of ironic considering how many kidnappings and other crimes committed on American tourists have taken place there.

I've only been down to Mexico once, the Matamoros area near Brownsville when we were vacationing in South Padre back in '00. It was probably a LOT safer then than it is now...

A few years ago a local fellow was jailed in Mexico for months, something to do with possession of firearms. He was supposedly on a hunting expedition, so one would expect guns to be involved. I don't move in the social circles that would pick up the gossip so I dunno what was the real story.

I wish I could go!

I wish I could go but the timing is not right for me. I want everyone to know I hope you all have a real great time and I will constantly be thinking of you all.
Best Wishes
Peter

passport

yes, you do need a passport to go to mexico these days. January 23rd was the cut off date. I'm going to Mexico in April and had to get one. It takes 6-8 weeks to get one unless you pay twice the amount (almost 200 dollars) if you pay the extra money it takes 3 weeks.
