Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hi Darrel,
Yes the tops have been repainted also. They were scratched and faded beyond saving. No rust anywhere however. The tops were media blasted to remove what was left of the porcelain enamel. Then they were treated with an acid primer, paint primer, and then the paint. The cabinets were sanded, primed and painted. The paint is very tough and scratch resistant, and with care will last a lifetime.

Range Options

I've seen a turquoise 1959 GE 40-inch range for $3,800 -- completely rebuilt. Rick, the new Northstars on the site you linked me to start at $4,000. Both of those are totally out of my price range and the 40-inch GE, as gorgeous as it is, violates my space limitations.

My guess is that since automotive finishes stand up to the blazing sun, intense engine heat, etc., it should stand up to cooking temperatures -- especially if I keep it protected with Jubilee Kitchen Wax.

Bethann, please tell me more about powder coating.

Thanks!

You can find them for much less $$

Bethann,
Can you please post a photo or two of the turquoise 1956 GE range you purchased a few months back?

Mark: Powder coating is much more durable and heat resistant. It's baked on. It would have to go get sand blasted first. So that means you have to take it apart. But you get great results. I'm sure there is somebody on here that can tell you more in detail than me though.
Rick: I'll post a picture of Emma in the morning. I need to take another one since she's cleaned up now. I just got home from work and I'm beat!

56 GE Liberator

Here's Emma. I had this whole thing typed out and got throw off... so since I'm lazy it's short and sweet! You can find one between free and 600.00. Depends on who has it and what kind of shape that it is in. If you want a certain model, color, and year it's harder to find. Not as hard as washers though! She wasn't to bad. Replaced the burners, fixed the light, minor wiring. Lots of cleaning! She really still isn't as clean as she could be. Now I need to find the matching fridge!

Bethann ... that's a GORGEOUS range!! How great to have it! That work space next to the burners is perfect for raising bread dough. Do you cook a lot?

Hi Geoff! I cook everyday! And for someone that has convinced her husband that she needs four kitchens... I would get my ass kicked if I didn't! LOL! I just can't wait to get them all done so everyone can see them!

Sweet Bethann! My favorite range is a toss up between yours and a GE Stratoliner in the same color. I have been looking for one for years with no luck! Congrats!
