So Macy's had a beautiful Turquoise KitchenAid 5-qt mixer --part of the Martha Stewart collection-- for over a year. When Robert and I go to the Mall of America, we usually park next to Macy's third floor entrance (which is conveniently an entrance in the small electrics department)... for a year, we drooled over this beautiful Turquoise mixer. Then we went to the mall a few weeks after Christmas -- and they were gone. Completely. Gone. We asked about them and were told that they went on clearance after Christmas, and no stores had them anymore.

Then I went poking around online. Still in stock! But still at the full price. I kept checking back, and finally it got marked down. Robert ordered one as a surprise for us for valentine's day... the UPS man delivered it yesterday! So we had to try it out tonight.

It's the perfect shade of turquoise! It looks FaBuLoUs in the kitchen with all of the other turquoise! They did really well picking this shade of turquoise...

Does anyone know about getting a glass bowl from the 90th Anniversary model? If they're available as a replacement part -- if I order one -- will it work on this model?

Fred, from what I understand on the KA forums, and Kelly will hopefully back me up, but in about 6 months to a year, they will more than likely offer the glass bowl as an accessory option for compatible mixers, but not until then.

SWEET!

She looks right at home in your lovely kitchen! The cake looks delicious, could you please send me a piece, I didn't get a birthday cake this year.

Fred & Robert that mixer looks fantastic !
That is my favorite color cake my mom made me one when i was nine, so it will always have a place in my heart.
Happy valentine's day to you both.
I am not that lucky yet maybe next year.
Paul ( Turquoisedude ) Don't hate lol.

Now, if KitchenAid added that to their dishwashers...

Then I might get away with bringing a turquoise one into town! They really did get a great shade of turquoise there!! See, Darren, I CAN appreciate modern appliances after all... LOL

Awesome Valentine's Day Gift!!!

Beautiful machine! KA did that color right.

AND I love getting appliances for gifts!!! I don't care who delivers it!

There is much to be said for dark porcelain-enameled burner bowls that go into the pyrolytic self-cleaning oven and the DW.

:-)

Sweethearts, it looks like you've been glossing over you

Kelly, darling...

They're here waiting for you to come clean them any time you want! We'll even let you use the turquoise mixer while you're here.

:-)

Really, though.. those burner rings don't just "pop out" ... the whole burner assembly has to be taken out, and the burner is attached to the ring.
Not the easiest task. If it had been that easy, believe me, I would have gotten some Easy Off on those rings looooong ago!

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Do burners (coils, actually) of that era on a GE tilt up, or unplug or none of the above?

Dawn Dissolver is a milder verion of Easy-Off (lye-based oven cleaner). I'm just sayin'

Toggle...

So what does it mean if, in fact, a UPS man delivered this beautiful KitchenAid? ((He Did!!!))

Hmmmmm.

Um. The burners do tilt upwards.. but then I have to clean it at the stove. I was saying-- if the burners were modular, and essentially unplugged from the stove and the burner rings just completely came out, I'd be all over cleaning them...in the sink.

Welcoming Smell of Warmed SOS

You're right, they'reifficultto clean and the sos is impossible to rinse out completely. The first time you warm the burner you get wisps of soapy incense. I always ask myself if it wouldn't be better to keep my mouth shut, you can be never be convicted for what you think its when you open your mouth the trouble starts. Walking the tight rope of being a pain in the neck instead of tongue in cheek is where I end up. Fred, I'd love to clean your range. First of all because of it's esteemed owners and secondly because of my deep love of cleaning, restoring, nurturing and playing in water to clean anything.

Work It Baby

The glass bowl is very heavy and the handle adds so much width to the bowl, pouring brings your elbow higher than your shoulder. It's not ergonomic. It is fun to watch thengs get germixed in a glass bowl.

And tongue in cheek is exactly how I took it :-)

Can't say I know the "smell of warmed SOS..."

Guess I'll have to get a box of SOS pads and dig into that stove.. LOL

hmm.

The used to call me stove-stop Steve, because I always threw in cleaning the stove when I was washing-up the dishes and pots/pans at my hosts' place.

Hint (not that you need any!)

Cleanser
brillo / s.o.s
rinse
dish soap
rinse
windex or equivalent!

in that order!

I think there are procelain (i.e. not chrome) bowls and rings (sometimes re-fashioned as one piece instead of two pieces i.e. bowl and ring) that have a "U" cut in them insted of an opening such that they (the bowls) can come off/out even if the elements just tilt up instead of unplugging.
