Very busy day getting these bad boys home.
They came from a duplex nearby where the sole resident, an old woman, went to an old folks home many years ago and the house was sealed up. She recently passed.
The kids were long estranged from their (presumably) last living parent, but were eventually located in Seattle.
The new owner is gutting the 40’s-50’s era house and moving his family in.
I felt heat from the dryer and the motor ran. As you can see the belt is toast. Can I get a clear belt like that at the hardware store?
Early quiet pak?
The washer filled, agitated, spun, and drained as I advanced it through the cycle. That is all the testing I did.
Look at the top of that dryer after a quick wipe down! Perfect clear ocean of turquoise goodness.
The lint filter door is a fantastically solid hunk of crafted metal, utterly worlds away from later WP top filter dryer incarnations.
*Btw when I moved the machines I was careful to pad that dolly with cardboard*[this post was last edited: 4/27/2019-16:48]

1963 Imperial WP Pair
These are older than I thought, The dryer was built the 35th week of 1963.
The blower belt was originally black rubber, and was replaced at some point with the replacement urethane belt, WP has discontinued these belts but you can have them made to order.
This was not an early Quiet-Pac machine, these dryers were anything but quite, LOL, The washer does not have the HD transmission or 1/2 HP motor yet, these improvements did not come out till 1964, The washer would need a major rebuilding and up dating if someone wanted to use it much.
This dryer was the first year of the 2 speed blower and dual wattage heating element, on these high end models WP used a larger lint screen and lint filter lid which along with being coated in porcelain enamel is why it feels heavy.
In any event they are a very cool find I hope you or someone else enjoys restoring and using them.

Wow, I've never seen a Whirlpool dryer like this before, I'm used to the traditional flat back drum. Can someone explain how the sprinkler function worked? If it was used in air fluff, I take it, it just made the clothes damp so they could be ironed?
Supersurgilator I believe how it worked was it added water to the drum much like the newer steam dryer do, and it was supposed to make clothes softer or less wrinkled or something, but it was more of a gimmick than anything. Adding moisture to clothes in a dryer does not make sense, and the purpose of a dryer is to remove moisture and not add moisture in lol. Plus steam is pretty much created anyway when you dry clothes in a dryer, and that might explain why clothes are usually soft after they are dried, and a dryer sheet will definitely make clothes softer after they are done drying in the dryer
Dryer sprinklers were to dampen for ironing, run on air/no heat.
Actually, Bruce is right. The sprinkler feature was used to dampen fully dried clothes for ironing. I suspect that the idea was that if clothes had been hung out on a line, the sprinkler would be a time-saver to get items dampened to generate steam while ironing. Some dryers have a dial setting for 'damp' that would have left clothes ready for ironing.
My '57 GE dryer should have a sprinkler but it is long gone; likewise, my '59 Frigidaire dryer is missing the nozzle that would go inside the dryer drum...

I intend to put more pics up in a day or two.
I wanted to note that the dryer is missing the metal that covers the rear of the light fixture.
I went back today to check if it was kicking around the garage of the house I bought the set, but had no luck finding it.
I do have the circular flange that was removed when this picture was taken. Everything seems to be as it should except that rear light panel cover on the dryer.
New light bulbs are also needed btw.[this post was last edited: 4/28/2019-17:34]

Those Whirlpools do need work. The back panel on the control panel is missing, the blower belt is toast, the dryer appears to be high mileage since the enamel is beginning to wear off, and there needs to be couple of other things that need to be done to that dryer. The washer will have to be rebuilt at some point in the future. I do have parts I could borrow from my KM portable washer if I get that set, but it’s up in the air though. My friend Richard (speedqueen) has the exact same dryer in white
