Wow, I forgot those ever existed.
My mother had the washer and dryer, I know it was in the sixties because we moved house in 1970 and took them with us.
I seem to think that they were originally cream and she painted them White.
Are they in working order?
They must certainly be rare.
Al, the water valve on my Hoover twin tub was also well and truly jammed,after I had removed it I gave it a good squirt of WD40 and then gently tapped it with a hammer on the plunger from underneath , it did the trick and now is working perfectly.
I must admit it is certainly my favourite twin tub , although of course the servis MKII looks better.

Hi Paul, thanks..the machine with the lid up is a MK2 Parnall Spinwasher.

Hi Lance..that Tumble dryer works, the washer needs the pump looking at, something to do with the spring as it is moved into place when required by solenoid.

Lucky you having a Parnall Spinwasher. My Nan had one when I was little, it was a semi automatic according to my Mum. I don't remember much about it apart from it seemed huge to me as a little boy. Mum said before Nan bought the Parnall she used to hire a wringer washer every week from a man with a van who ran a washing machine hire company. He had several wringer machines and did different streets on different days of the week, you hired the machine for a morning and he dropped it off and picked it up again.

The Parnall is a great machine, I have a video i did of it in action going through a wash, rinse and spin cycle some years ago, but can't find anyone to transfer it from analogue video to pc format.

Tha machine was classed as a semi-automatic as the machine was filled with water, washed and then the user maunally switched the control to spin. You could either save the water for future wash loads or empty it straight away and proceed to the rinse and spin cycle.

I have had two of these machines, the first machine i had to be dump as the outer container was badly damaged by corrosion.

My Mum told me as much as she could remember about the operation of the machine. Thanks for posting the leaflet, I had seen a similar description in a Which? magazine. I just wish I had been at my Nan's on laundry day. She got rid of the machine when I was 7 and she moved from her 3 bed house into a flat. There was no room for it in her new kitchen and also the lid had badly rusted and a replacement could not be found.

I boiled the valve tonight in vinegar, and although still very stiff there is a little movement in it now, aided and abetted with a small tap with a hammer

Hi Al,

They were good machines, and were a good alternative between wringer washer & twin tub or fully automatic, allowing the housewife to still be in control of the wash without having to handle wet washing.

Yeah a catch up would be nice, let me know when your around and hopefully we can arrange a date.
