UK Finish Dishwasher Liquid Gel

This has been reformulated.

The thicker, white chlorine bleach formulation has gone, and in its place is a blue-green, watery, biological concoction. The pouring nozzle is a much narrower design, and it appears to have no bleaching ingredients at all.

The standard yellow 1 litre bottle is still used, but the blue-green contents shine through, giving the bottle a greenish cast - it just looks weird.

Finish sold a chlorinated dishwasher detergent in the UK? They never did here. As far as I know, only Unilever sell an enzyme gel with oxy bleach in it under the Sun Expert Gel label.

I think that all automatic dishwasher have chlorine-based bleach.Powders and tablets have oxygen bleach instead of chlorine bleach.

Not over here in the UK.

Normally, the tablets and powders are an enzyme based detergent.

Finish liquid was chlorine based, but that now appears to have changed as mentioned by rolls.

I wonder why they decided to change it?

Looking on Tesco.com, it appears that the tablets do have an oxygen bleach along with enzymes (usually subtilisin (protease) - for proteins; and amylase - for starches).

One major difference though;

Fairy has no phosphates.

Finish is absolutely packed with them (more than 30% of the ingredients).

Wonder if this is down to the fact that Fairy is P&G; therefore American and phosphates are banned pretty much across all of America?

liamy1 - P&G have dropped phosphates in the tablets that have the new style packaging. I always use Fairy Platinum tablets and honestly hadn't noticed any difference in performance with the new version. It seems like a worthwhile change too:

For a good 12months the local discount shops have had this Eastern European finish gel and I've been using it in the Bosch's Turbospeed cycle when entertaining and when spending a good days batch cooking to keep on top of dishes.

Occasionally used it on soiled loads and on the whole it's not let me down on everyday soil. I wonder if the new UK formula is this? Was there any mention of it being all in one?

Spoodles, does look like a worthwhile change. Will have a look next time I am shopping for them. I don't stock dishwasher detergents as I do laundry products , so don't end up buy them that often. Weren't aware any changes had happened.

Always used the chlorine based Finish Gel, but even that seemed to go downhill towards the end. No longer cleaned as effectively as it used to, and worse still, left everything covered in a white, hazy film. This film could not be scrubbed off, and the only way to shift it was by putting the load through two or three additional wash cycles with a different detergent.

I did try one bottle of the new chlorine free formula, and I wouldn't say it's an improvement. It performs exactly like the Sainsburys and Waitrose own brand gels; OK on food soils, but useless at shifting tea, coffee and tomato staining. Also leaves things looking a bit streaky after the wash.

Switched to using powder or tabs, and the problem was solved instantly. Regardless of brand, they all appear to work reliably with none of the above issues, so I just buy whatever has the best pack size/price ratio at the time.

That's how I imagine the new Finish gel will probably perform. It has no bleach in the mixture.

They can't leave well alone, they've always got to fiddle with something.

The bottle looks almost exactly like the previous chlorine bleach version. The label now says "Liquid Gel", whereas previously it said "Liquid".

It doesn't remove fresh tomato stains from chopping boards, on the intensive cycle, so I won't be buying it again.

About the only use it might have, is to wash champagne flutes.
