Fitted kitchens

In the UK fitted kitchens became much more popular in the 70s.
Until the war most kitchens were very basic to say the least.
After the war 120000 prefabricated homes were built to deal with the housing shortage.
Affectionaly know as "Prefabs" they were incredibly popular and indeed some still survive today and their residents love them.
All prefabs were built and owned by the government and they probably had the first fitted kitchens.
The units were made from aluminium which was recycled from air planes no longer needed after the war.
I have posted a picture of my kitchen unit which was removed from a prefab before it was demolished a few years ago.
It is made totally from recycled airplane metal and despite its size is very light but also very strong.
This unit is kept in my garage which is actually used as a second kitchen and storage for the washing machines.
Hope you like it.

'Oversized appliances'

I will admit I'm a bit of an inverted snob, I find oversized or overstated decor and appliances very vulgar. I always go for subtle and understated. 'American style' refrigerators have become the height of tacky status symbols here!

We have a fridge freezer which is perhaps slightly smaller than a separate under counter fridge and freezer, if has always been more than adequate for our needs and we only do food shopping twice a week.

The jug

It is a reproduction of a jug which originally was used to bring beer from the cellar to the bar and then poured into glasses and sold.
The brewery on the jug no longer exists but is now known as "Theakstones" in the small town of masham ( pronounced without the "H" as Masam)
The jug is of very little value and can be bought in the UK for about £15.00
Glad you like it.
