Bold - Old please!!

I recently bought a box of Bold as it was only £1 'cos the box was damaged. It was the blue 'flavour', which back in the 1970's 1980's when it first appeared here as Bold 2 and then Bold 3 was the only varient there was and it smelled GORGEOUS!!!! After one towel wash I have sidelined it for soaking cleaning rags. OMG, it turned my stomouch with its overpowering, cloying and sickly sweet fragrance. Why oh WHY do they keep mucking about with these products? Whoever is deciding on the fragrances has serious sensory deprivation in the nasal department.

Daz

update on Daz.......well I was ironing hubby's work shirts ( I don't usually do the ironing ) and they did not smell clean at all. They are supposed to be washed at 30deg, but I usually wash them at 40deg but they had a bit of a sweaty smell still ( he has quite a physical job ). So off to Asda today, Ariel Excel Gel for £3 , cottonwash at 30 deg, smell gone. Most annoyed as had just bought another 80 wash box of Daz from sainsburys! Well thats my hot maintainence washes sorted for the next couple of years!!!

Speaking of detergents of days gone buy, Persil liquid when it first came out smelt divine,as did Wisk.....though it didn't clean very well.

My Grandma used to use Drive in her Supermatic, Mum used what ever Lever Bros sent for her to test but always used Boots "Soft Rinse".

I agree with Hoovermatic......old Bold smelt great too. I find a lot of detergent smells pretty awful now.....and have found I can only use "sensitive" fabric softeners as all the new "fresh for days" softeners give me a terrible rash.

Ariel

Hi Guys.

I have been using Ariel Profesional Liqued, 5ltr size which I get from Costco. It smells nice, gives good results. I always wash my whites on a 60c wash & the rest of my washing on 40c.

I use Lenor concentrate, the summer breeze one, which smells nice.

I am not keen on the ariel big box powder, odd smell, like chewing gum, lol.

I am not to keen on persil, but do like the smell of persil liqued concentrate, the one with the essence of comfort. I find it hard to buy in the shops. They sell it in morrisons.

Hi .
I dont use fabric conditioners that much.
Only Green Force FC occasionally.
I find that the fab con stays in the fabric and then when its put in the washing machine ,it interferes with the detergents.
I can never get a good sudsy wash if I wash something that has been previously rinsed in fab con.

But sadly was'nt up to the job ( stain removal wise )

Compact Powders

The thing that shot all those compact powders in the foot was the appliance manufacturers drastically reducing their water levels in their new machines at the same time!!! Consumers just carried on dosing as normal and poor rinsing ensued, the more expensive machines managed to use the extra rinses, whilst the average machines just didnt cope, remember talking to the Service Manager at Servis when the RainWave machines and Compact Powders hit...."Which" consumer reports had a field day and we where swapping more machines than selling!!

We are seeing a return to more "Compact" powders, thats why the boxes seem empty!!! its a phased move rather than a drastic change....and with all the "BigLoad" machines now available, consumers will need education & support in use of all the Laundry Detergents & Additives as well!!!

I do dabble with most products but always come back to Ariel & Lenor or Comfort Pure!!! Persil Liquid rinses great, Lidl I have used but needed more rinsing I found...I vote for 80`s Ariel and that deep blue Lenor!!!

Ariel Professional Liqued

Hi Louis.

I think the Ariel Professional Liqued is meant for nursing homes, or guest houses, hotels, kitchens.

I find it ok, smells nice, clean well. I always wash my whites & bedding on 60c.

Hi Louis, the professional is the same stuff as regular domestic, just brought to market by a different route!!!

As you say usually larger catering type packs!!! Costco does have some good offers on the professional stuff though!!

Talking of bulk powder, I visited P&G Technical Centre in Newcastle recently, now that place certainly put detergents and machines through their paces, fascinating!!!

I asked the same question and surprisingly, not a lot, they are used on one fixed 60d wash programme and run repeatedly back to back for days!!! They looked in good nic as well considering the workload!!!

I go past the P&G place every time I go to Asda in Benton (only supermarket I've ever seen with a McDonald's inside instead of a cafe! I'd imagine that would be to do with Wal-mart's American influence lol)

What did you have to do to get shown round? It looks so cool!

You mentioned that this was good for rinsing, whats it like for cleaning, as you know I am in a bit if a qaundry over finding a whites cleaner having given up on Daz now (I did a boil wash in the 3060 today with the last of the Daz and still not everthing came out)
I was thinking about Ariel professional but you say that is the same as the domestic version....

Any suggestions?

Ahh Gary I'm having a similar problem at the moment

Although my problem is more with finding a detergent that will leave colours clean and fresh without bleaching the hell out of them.

I've found Ariel colour leaving a lot to be desired on that front of late. Asda colour liquid seems to do a better job, and can actually clean the dirt from the bottoms of my jeans, (which I always seem to buy too long). It's hardly perfect on the freshening front though.

I've got a 28 wash box of Daz for my whites, it seems to do an ok job, I have to use a long wash though, and go quite heavy handed on the dosing for bad stains, but I'm managing with it. It dosen't really compare to ariel though.

I'm contemplating going for Persil next time, had terrible experience with Surf giving lacklustre results, so I'll be avoiding that for a while. Can't really think of anything else to try apart from supermarket brands.

It's not on really that these brands charge a premium and give results that can certainly be improved upon. I don't see how they can charge more for Fairy than Ariel either!

My parent's are away in Germany this week and will be bringing me back some Persil megapearls, can't wait to give them a try, used them a few years ago when we lived over there but was still a bit of an Ariel fiend back then.

Would be interesting to see if there is some brand we are completley overlooking, which could actually trounce the lot!
