Hi all.

As some of you will remember, a while back Gary (electron1100) received a dryer in for scrap which he took home for safety and preservation.

As with all of us, we never have enough room (indeed i am panicking a bit as just this evening I saw another machine, which I have agreed to purchase, but thats for another day soon!) and so, for Gary, something had to go.

He very kindly offered the machine out and, through the generosity of Gary and Mathew, for the last 4 or 5 months the machine has slowly been working its way up the country to myself and Rob.

Thanks to Mathew (keymatic3203) for bringing the machine upto Cardiff, during a marathon machine moving run that would have had me collapsing through nerves! The move involved the dryer in his car and two hoovermatics in a trailer behind!!
The drag made for a very slow journey for him - I am glad you kept it quiet till after the event Mathew. I'd have been sick with worry for you.

Machine(s) arrived in cardiff for storage and I clapped eyes on the dryer, for the first time, back in July. I would have got the machine out from under Mathews feet at that point, but finished up with a Hotpoint 95360 in the car instead.

The dryer stayed down in cardiff then, until Mike's do, a couple of weekends ago, when mathew brought the machine the rest of the way to Cheshire.

A bit of tlc and it looks great, although we will keep an eye out for a replacement lid, or get the old one resprayed.

Here she is, in all her elctricity board exclusive glory - the D6E06 dryer de luxe...

and under a work surface (a little bit anyway) probably for the first time in its life.

I asked gary about it and he mentioned that all it really needed was a new fan belt, but that was all.

So, yet again, something that with a bit of money spent on it was cast out instead of being repaired...

it went unnoticed all day saturday as well, which really surprised me, as you could hardly miss this hidden machine in the porch.

Mind you, the walls are white, so perhaps it did blend in quite well!

The evening came and after tea (if you are a northerner - like me) or dinner (if you are a southerner) the hidden machine was quietly moved into position....

he gatecrashed the party and we didnt know who it was at fir

How did you guess Gary?

Yep - its a slightly over weight and very oblong Michael Myers. I had to paintshop out the specs otherwise it would have been a dead giveaway! lol.

definately a washing machine, and not another tumble dryer!

see, it has wash programmes on the facia. honest - its not a dryer...

the ratings plate on the D6E06 dryer....

dates it to May 1979!

Yep - seems that Hoover were making matchboxes right to the end of the 1970s!!!

Electra set

OH WOW!................stacking kit aswell...........what a pair! :-)...........beautiful Paul yah sly dog........what an acheivement............they look stunning...........did you try the washer?

Ps Mike looks a bit tired there, what have you been doing to him :-)

thanks for the kind words Gary.

You are 50% responsible for it - many thanks for the dryer.

I will never get over how weird it is that, as the dryer works its way up the country (provided by your good self and transported by mathew), I get offered the A2E04.

Yep - we tried the A2E04 and have got some vids. Gonna be a pain though and I will upload the washer vids and daytime photos tomorrow.

In the meantime here is a vid of the dryer, with a glimpse at the washer in there too!

enjoy
Paul

Sheesh...Looks like the same stacking frame we used here for the Zodiac/Electra's....

Tell me, do they have 2 inverted 'feet', one at each front corner, that insert into the bottom of the dryer?

ahhhhh so this is where the Hoover Zodiac came from. The Hoover Zodiac over here lacked a powder dispenser but did have that flip switch for controlling the spin. Its practically the same machine just with different stylings to make it Australianized and also to make it look like a match to the top loaders of the time. Can anyone else see the similarities?

Awesome matching pair tho, always looks good. Takes me back to nursery when the kitchen in there had a matching pair of Hoovers of almost the same styling :-D

Paul

I can't believe you posted that photo of Mike, He was smiling and laughing the whole time, it's almost a caption competion.

Did someone ask what the vzug did that the electra couldn't? lol.

Mathew

Thanks for the comments guys!

Hi Louis. They dont half look bad do they! As you say, matching sets really have something about them. Plus they are that much harder to produce, but when they arrive the feelings of satisfaction are great.

Hi Chris. The stacking kit is a Qualtex job, provided by Mike King. Unfortunately, and we were a tad surprised by this, its about 1.5cm too wide! It is sold as a universal stacking kit, so maybe, they made it a tad wider than the norm, so as to make it more universal (despite the machines being standard width). Truth be told, we are all a tad perplexed as to why its not manufactured as a perfect fit.

Cheers
paul
