This is how Surf, UniLever's other brand in the UK/Ireland describes itself:

Just a shame it leaves your clothes stinking of chavs and still as dirty as they were when you put them in the machine ;-).

Did I tell anyone I don't like Surf?

Jon :-p

Well it's a Chavtastic washing powder, what do you expect!?

I honestly doubt that Persil and Surf formulation differs very much. Most of the time all these products come off the same line. They're just given a dose of a different scent.

Surf's Unilever's value brand, doesn't necessarily mean that they skimp on the ingredients.

If you want terrible washing powder, try Tesco Value washing powder. You'd be better of washing your clothes in custard!

to be honest with you MrX

my eldest sister is currently going through a bad financial crisis and is using tesco value powder, and to be honest it does clean your clothes maybe not as well as peril or ariel but it gets out the majority of stains and maybe bleaches your clothes a bit more so than ariel or persil but it does clean clothes, and I know you were kidding about the custard thing but i dont think it would be too good for the drain pump to wash your clothes in custard :-P

I dont mean to be argumentative but, just thought i would say

im currently using surf tropical tablets and even in my hunk of junk Hoover washing machine it gets my clothes clean, I have never had cleaning problems with surf, and ive never considered surf to be a chavvy washing powder, infact ive never really considered any washing powder to be chavvy.

Funny you should mention custard, Mr. X. Back in the early 1970's, when I ws a kid, I big plans to buy 40 boxes of instant pudding and some powdered milk, set our Kenmore to the lowest water level and pour it all into the machine. I figured the agitation would mix everything enough to make a half-load of chocolate pudding for me and all my friends. Fortunately, this is one harebrained scheme I didn't carry out.

Surf in Australia

Hi Mr.X,
Could you tell us what are the 3 fragrances Surf comes in over there?,here in Australia it comes in 3 fragrances as well they are "Cotton Fresh","Lemon Fresh" and "Ocean Fresh" personally my favourite is the ocean fresh, as for performance it is not too bad really although I will be happier when my little local deli starts stocking Henkel's Persil again as it is my true preferred detergent.
My understanding of Surf here is that it is Unilever's competitor product to Colgate-Palmolive's Cold Power which just for the record I really hate although it is really quite popular as most Aussies wash in cold water anyway.(I do not).

CHAV is English! But we have them here too...

I have heard the term used in London when I was flying International. I was out with a freind having lunch near Trafagar Square and he said "look, there's a real group of Chavs!"
The best way I can describe a Chav is a person who wears those hipity hop type clothes and training outfits that have the designer name in huge letters on them, hoodies and baseball caps, lots of "bling-bling", and they never seem to wear real shoes, just tennis shoes all the time (called Trainers in the UK) Chavs in the US love to drive those 4 wheel drive trucks that are 8 feet up off the ground. Chavs usually act like little punks.
I would venture to say a Chav would be the result if the Hipity Hop and Redneck culture collided.
For those Texans, if you go to the WalMart in Porter, Texas you would see tons of Chavs. But then again, you could also see them at the Galleria (on the walkways, not in the stores.Being a Chav doesn't mean you are poor, you have to have some $$ to be a Chav.
I never thought of a Chav product,I guess you could say that they like the cheapest of the cheapest (Old Milwaukee beer is a favourite of American Chavs)

UK surf frarances are

Tropical as said above

Sunshine this is a nice flowery fresh smell, (this is my favourite out of the surf range)

an finally we have Breeze which is great for that unbeatble fresh scent

Surf is a perfectly good product but I don't use it 'cos I hate the fragrances. Never thought of it as Chavtastic though. Now Daz, that's for Chavsters!!

Very Interesting!!!

Hey guys dont hold back with the labelling of Chavs will you!!!!....LOl

I`d better watch my steps in the supermarket...ha.ha..ha

When Jetcone was here in August he accused me and Jon from Brum of being "Soap Powder Home Brand Snobs" we where both gobsmacked at the time and really where thrown by his remarks!!!

If only he could see us now, on the strength of that we went out and bought Co-Op twinny powder with BlueBell Fabric conditioner...LOl

I must admit I try all the powders including Surf and luv Daz for Blue whites, Daz twinTub smells just like the old stuff, the smelly surf is fine when you are doing a wash in but I`d be the first to admit that I use Ariel Powder/Colour/Liquid in the Maytasko along with Comfort Pure or Ecover conditioner.

Ooooohhhhhh I think I`d better do to me what I do in my job, I`ve just been labelled a Chav ....I need a rebranding ASAP....lordy lordy...LOL

Back to the topic at hand... It looks like Unilever is using the same marketing company for UK Surf and USA All. The graphics are quite similar, and the cutsie phrases that speckle the boxes and bottles are about the same.
