Dishwasher!

Yes this is definatly a GM Frigidaire. If I'm not mistaking this is the model you push the center of the knob to start it. On this model it couldn't be reset, you needed to let the cycle complete!

Thanks! Would a 1961 model look the same?

No not at all. A 1961 would have a much "fatter", "deeper" timer knob; there's no sliding from left to right door lock; the "handle" on the door would be protruding out in a curved manner thater than more of a "lip"' there wood be no faux woodgrain panel look on the panel at all.

When I was a freshman in college Spring of 1974, I knew a guy who lived at home with his family in the hills around Austin (but no planes flying into the sides of buildings back then). They'd moved into their new house about a year or two earlier and had this exact same dishwasher, but in avocado.

The kitchen shown is a duplex for sale built in 1973. Some friends of mine just bought a house that was built in 1961. The owners left photos of when the house was being built. There was a photo of the kitchen and the dishwasher looked similar to the one posted. The 1961 photo is hard to make out and is in black and white. Thanks for the input!

FRIGIDAIRE "SUPER"

these were built in to a few of the apartment complexes in Rosedale,Md.a small town in southeast Baltimore County. They are the Super Surge models.Bottom of the line but far from "cheezy". Loud but very good getting dishes real clean.Looks like around 1973ish.

Actually, the circumferential ring with the cycle printed on it on the front on the timer could be carefully pried off from the outside edge, giving access to the knob which could then be turned around until it cammed out at the OFF position.

When I was in college and before I knew this, friends had this dishwasher in their apt. One night we ate there and after loading the dw, we discovered that someone had interrupted the dry cycle so the timer was not at the OFF position. They were thinking we had to unload all the suff and let the drying finish, but I had another solution. I just used the sink faucet sprayer to spray all the stuff in the lower rack and let it finish the dry portion, making a primitive steam cycle and gently warming everything. In 10 minutes, I was able to start it and everything came out clean.

Is this a seasonal home or some other little-used place that would explain why these appliances are still there? I am just asking because these dishwashers did not usually last this long.

Great brochure! Looks like the same as in the 1973 kitchen posted. Also looks like the one in 1961 kitchen photo that I'm unable to post. I will have to study the 1961 photo more closely the next time I'm in Ukiah.

In the late 60s, at least, there were bol Frigidaire DWs without an automatic detergent dispenser, just an indentation for a dispenser with a perforated covering, allowing the detergent to dissolve and wash out during the one long wash, sort of like the cycle on the Deluxe swirling water spray tube Frigidaire DWs of the earlier design. One wash and 4 rinses, underkill on one end and overkill on the other.
