First time in two years that this mixer has seen the light of day. I've not had a good place to store it until now, but this is one item that's headed into my new pantry.
It's a Model 38, don't know exactly when it was manufactured (or bought), but my cousin, who is 6 months younger than me, says he remembers it from very early years - mixing cakes. His mother was the middle daughter in a family of 3 girls, my mother is the oldest. They were only 18 months apart in age and were really close growing up. Mother married in 1949 and I imagine Aunt Betty married within a year or two after that.
My aunt passed away in the fall of 2002, but she had already given me this mixer as she knew of my "weird" side with vintage appliances, etc. She figured my cousin would ultimately not have any use for the mixer. She had already retired it from use as it had begun to leak oil at the top of the beater - oil which would wind up in whatever was being mixed. So she had moved it out of the kitchen and bought a replacement.
I have only cleaned it up, never tried to use it or attempted restoration. But who knows, one day I just might try to bring it back to life. Mostly its just one more way for me to feel connected to my aunt. She also made the ceramic Christmas tree that I use.
