Unusual items found in old dryers

What is the most unusual item you have found in an old dryer? Some on this site may have heard about the 20.00 bill I found in an old Kenmore that had to be sent to the Beareau of printing and engraving for replacement as it was severely mutilated. But a few days ago I picked up as a trade in an olf Maytag electric dryer and when I plugged it in, it spit out an old (1995 series) 1.00 bill which I promptly put into my beer money bucket. A place where I put all loose change from washers and dryers for my weekends. But I also found a Bicentennial 50 cent peice in the blower case. This rounds out the gambit of coins I have found. Yes, I have even found one of the new gold dollars too but yet to find a real silver dollar. I once did find an Eisenhour dollar though.

Service Call

I went on a service call on an old Kenmore dryer that was giving off an odd smell. I found an old Timex watch with a leather band on top of the heating element housing. The band was cooked pretty well done. It would have made a good commercial for Timex if it still ran.

I found a childrens sandal lodged in the motor of a Whirlpool dryer once. Kenmores, the older ones, are bad about eating money.

I found a very small bag of weed inside a kenmore dryer-not enough to even give a mouse a buzz (believe me I tried!)

Speaking of mouse... I found 2 dead mouses in one machine i recycled. They were cooked pretty well. I have also found a dead bird in one dryer, A LOT of nice clothes (somebody must have forgot them, i washed them again and took them home, this was pretty new clothes we are talking about), a lot of coins at various places and lastly (i belive it was)a small bag of weed, just like the above poster.

well as far as dryers go..the only nasty one was a slant front westy, one dead mouse in the cabinet and had to pull the drum to clean out all the loose change and one rinestone earing and an ink pen..wish it had been more fun

Tough as Nails

An old man in our town, was lamenting how hard is was to get his clothes dry, since his dryer didn't work. I went home with him and found a fairly new Kenmore. In the blower was lodged some change and a 16 penny nail. I took the blockage out and turned the dryer on to try it. Into my chest, the dryer blew out a huge mouse nest, baby mice, turds, mom and all. I learned to stand out of the way, in the future.

Working dryers have treasure too...

Back in the 80s I got a phone call from a friend of my younger sister, here's how it went.

Me: Hello?
"Chuck": Hi Bobby, I heard you know about dryers can you look at ours?
Nep: What it is doing?
Chuck: Well, it sounds loud and smells funny.
Nep: What kind is it?
Chk: I don't know.
Nep: Now, Chuck, how can you use a dryer every day and not know what brand it is? That's like driving your car and not ever seeing the Chevrolet symbol on the steering wheel.
Chk: Well, it's not much fun to use so I really try NOT to look at it!

When I came down I found a Kenmore dryer that not only had a lot of lint but also had that "bad" exhaust tubing that I later replaced and also had some weed. I found a bong down below too. Turns out Chuck's older brother was drying weed in the lower compartment. I told Chuck that if he wanted his dryer to keep running he better tell his brother to listen to Nancy Reagan and Just Say No.

The top hatch for the lint filter of Whirlpool and Kenmore dryers is a great place to lose things that were on top of the dryer. One day my Brother in Law was going to run a Triathlon and was looking for the Speedos he just spent a lot of money on for it. My sister asked to look in their washer and dryer to because he had looked everywhere. Sure enough, I saw something red in the back of the drum where the hot air goes through the filter. Had to use a coat hanger wire to get the Speedos out. He tells me they were "never right" after that happened.

I agree with one of the above posters when it comes to asking the question, "Well, what brand is your machine?" It makes me crazy when people don't know after using the machine for 20 years. I suspect ADD or brain damage at the least. I must say that I'm not making fun of ADD, I am sure I suffer from an undiagnosed case of it myself.

I will say this for my BIL: He didn't know what brand of dryer he had but he did know what brand of swimwear he wants to wear. BTW, my sister didn't want me to find the Speedos, she says they "Show off all his parts".

I've seen loads of clothes in dryers, only one in a washer though, food in refrigerators and freezers and even saw a partial load of dishes in a dishwasher. I suspect the dishwasher came from a vacant apartment or the like and the guys didn't want to mess with emptying the machine before they removed it.

One dryer in particular had a load of kids clothes in it and worse, a well-loved "binky" (blanket) that some child was going to be very upset about losing.

I found a Cross mechanical pencil in the outer tub of a DD Kenmore washer. Once it was dry, it worked fine. WP/KM dryers are goldmines for change but I love the weed-drying story the best!

I find most of my loose change in WP/KM dryers,but also Maytag.

Several years ago,in Appliance Service News,someone wrote in about finding a live shotgun shell,in a Kenmore blower housing. Never found anything like that,but found my share of single earrings,pencils,paper clips,small pocket knives,etc.

..and I was expecting a couple of coins in there.

My neighbor (the cop's wife) dried some of her stuff in my dryer. [Utilites were unmetered to the tenants]. I found two live rounds tumbling with the clothing.

The dryer was located next to my stove. I could have gotten my jingle-bobs shot off while cooking!

Not too unusual, but last time I disassembled my AEG condenser dryer to clean the condenser unit, I found a sheet of bounce trapped inside the condenser unit! I have no idea how it got in there - firstly since I seldomly use Bounce, and secondly because to get there the sheet of Bounce would have had to go through a fine mesh lint filter! Very bizarre!!

Prophylaxis is priceless

Nothing beats finding a *Capote Anglaise* stuck to the sides of the dryer. (They like to hide in the blue towel).
