Unusual Kenmore 70 series dryer

Hello I came across this crazy looking control panel on this Kenmore dryer . I saw it for sale and I couldn't keep my eyes off it I just had to buy it . I never seen this particular dryer with this unusual control panel .If it came with the matching washer It would be awesome but I can only Wonder what happened to it and if Kenmore made a matching washer for this type of dryer!

I agree it must of been some thinking outside the box when they made these machines in the 60s 70s and 80s Its why I have a great interest on finding them thanks !

80's GM dash / instrument clusters

Looks like Whirlpool poached a GM engineer that designed dash and instrument clusters.

I don't recall that there was a washer with matching panel layout.  KenmoreGuy64/Gordon would know for sure.

The temp selector is misleading with multiple choices ... it really only has high, low, and air.

A white one of these was on Charlotte's Craigslist recently. I have a gold one of these, I think its gas, that I'd love to move on to a good home...but I am digressing.

This is indeed a rather odd-duck model. I am not sure why Sears made this model, but it has the same features as the mechanical control Lady K dryer for 1983 and 1985, just with the odd knobs and one fewer heat temp.

The knobs are NLA, but they seem prone to crack and slip, especially the timer knob.

This is an 80-series machine, highest model there was other than the Lady K for the 1985 line. There was not an exactly matching washer that I have ever seen.

Unusal Kenmore Dryer

The matching washer was the cheaper electronically controlled BD washer, It had a WL knob like the ones on the dryer and a mechanical start control like the dryer, but the other settings were a mostly black rectangular touch panel.

 

It seems like in the WP-KM line up few of these slightly less expensive versions of the TOL models were sold.
