Well we've had our new GE refrigerator for two months now so I thought I would give you all an update about it.

First of all, we love the thing. It's so quiet that you never hear it even when running. The freezer compartment is great. Unlike the problematic Whirlpool we had before you can lay everything flat, even a x-large frozen pizza. In both the refrigerator and freezer section the space is utilized much better. The freezer is about 4 inches wider than the Whirlpools was.

The freezer seems "drier" than the Whirlpool was. In the Whirlpool boxes had some flexibility to them they'd be a little moist even though the thermometer in the freezer indicated "0" degrees. In the GE everything is stiff and dry. And all the bins in the doors are adjustable to just about any point you want to put them. In the Whirlpool they were molded in and not adjustable.
And the new LED lighting is great, for some reason easier on the eyes.
Both the Whirlpool and the GE cost about the same amount of money.
I installed a good surge suppressor on the outlet that feeds this refrigerator, just in case.

Eyeing GE

I'm eyeing GE. When our fridge takes a dump my next choice would be GE.
Certainly for the dishwasher. I've fixed this Kitchenaid about six times already. I threatened it with a GE replacement and that is probably why it is behaving.

As much as people here are fans of vintage appliances, I have to confess that late-model refrigerators are really nice. They seem to work as well as older models while using far less electricity. I have a Frigidaire counter depth side by side, now eight years old, and it still works great. So much nicer than my two previous fridges. The power bill dropped roughly 20% after it was installed.
