My little budgies are just starting to poke their heads out of the nest now to see what's going on so. Here's what they looked like a couple of weeks ago..

And here they are today, one is a few days behind the other two so isn't quite as fully feathered.

Wow! It doesn't seem like it takes them very long to grow into their feathers at all!

Reminds me when I was a kid, my Dad used to breed budgies in an aviary in our back yard. He had several breeding pairs, plus a couple who had been pets inside our house which he put in together into a breeding box. They produced no eggs and he was about to give up on them when one day an egg appeared in the nest box. Next day another then another till there were six. Dad was pleased as punch. Turned out it was a prank by my Mother who put a "Kool Mint" into the nest box each morning. (Kool Mints are small white mints about the size and shape of a budgie's egg)

Good one Gizmo. In reality using fake eggs like that, although real fake eggs are available, is one of the methods to stop a hen from laying too many eggs. BTW 3 of the chicks so far are out and about in the cage now, 9 more that I can count left.
